Chapter 1401
"Alright." Right now, Quincy didn't even care what Lydia was saying. Whatever she told him, he would simply follow it. She was always right in his eyes.
Seeing him like this, Lydia was momentarily reminded of when they had first fallen in love. Back then, when they had just begun dating, Quincy would look at her with the same silly smile every day.
She once asked him what made him so happy, and he would only replied, "As long as you're by my side, nothing else matters."
But now, they would not be seeing each other anymore. The child in her belly would have her love, her parents' love, but would never know a father's love.
"Lydia, do you resent me for following you?" Quincy asked, breaking the silence. "I know you don't want to see me, but I was genuinely afraid something might happen to you, worried he wasn't a good person, so I followed you." ""No," Lydia shook her head.
"No? You don't resent me, or...?"
"I don't mind seeing you," Lydia interrupted him. "We loved each other deeply once, and we didn't separate because the love was gone. It was misunderstandings and interference from both of our families."
She didn't want to continue living as they had, but that didn't mean she disliked him as a person.
Quincy's heart started to race.
Just then, the police arrived, breaking the moment between them. "Who called us? And why is there someone passed out on the ground?"
"It was me," Lydia said. "He tried to assault me, so I used pepper spray on him. The other injuries on his face happened when my husband protected me and fought him off." She gave a brief summary of what had happened. "And about the vendors outside, he admitted he'd paid them to close up early and leave."
After a quick rundown, the police took the unconscious Eugene into custody and told Lydia, "You two will need to come to the station to give a formal statement." Lydia nodded and followed them.
As they got in the car, Quincy suddenly took her hand. Seeing her surprised expression, he asked, "What did you just tell the police our relationship was?"
Met
"A married couple, of course. We haven't finalized the divorce yet. We're still in the cooling-off period, so technically, we're still husband and wife. If that bothers you, I'll stop saying it. We'll be officially divorced soon anyway," Lydia said, but before
she could finish, Quincy on her
hand tightened.
"Not at all. In fact, I'm hoping you won't go through with it. Let's take some time and withdraw the divorce application."
Lydia didn't respond to that. She still hadn't decided what she wanted to do.
Before long, they arrived at the police station, where both Lydia and Quincy made their statements. With Eugene still unconscious, the police arranged for an ambulance to take him to the hospital. FindNovel
Lydia accompanied Quincy to the hospital to get his wounds treated.
Meanwhile, her parents had been notified and rushed to the hospital. Seeing that Lydia was safe and unharmed, they finally relaxed.
"I was scared to death! I never
imagined he'd turn out to be so
unhinged. It's our fault, sweetheart. We were truly blind before," Mrs. Fay said, patting her chest in lingering fear.
Lydia was still in her early pregnancy. If Eugene had gotten his way, it could have easily led to a miscarriage. How could Lydia possibly handle such a devastating blow?
