Chapter 82
Chapter 82
I was an easy workday, for the most part Truthfully, half the company was still traveling because of the holiday, and the other half was preparing for Ross Corporation's New Year's Eve festivities. As such, Kylan only had two meetings and a few phone calls to attend to throughout the day.
It was for the best really. The palms of his hands still housed bandages, though they weren't wrapped anymore. The bandages served as a reminder of what Katrina witnessed Kylan go through, and it only surged her mind into a spiral of familiar questions while she attempted to work. Should she still resign from Ross Corporation Should she reinstate the contract, but with new rules? Did Kylan want to actually date her? She was going on a real date that evening, but what did that mean, exactly)
She didn't know. She also didn't know how receptive Kylan would be to her asking him his thoughts on the matter. She was certain she couldn't and shouldn't bring anything up until she was away from work, though.
When the day was nearing its end, she sat near Kylan's desk while he finished the last of his emails. A knock on his office door pulled her attention away from her tablet
She glanced up, not surprised to see it was Ryan checking in. "This is a nice sight," he commented, leaning against the doorway with his hands in his suit pockets. Kylan rolled his eyes and scowled at his computer monitor. "What d spoke

"I merely wanted to know how the pair of you are faring. Did you have an opportunity to talk to a therapist yet? Ryan had a knack for sounding nonchalant, even when the topic of discussion was anything but.
She moved her gaze back to her tablet, licking her lips and all but pretending to go through her own emails. She wanted to know if Kylan had talked to a therapist, too, but she hadn't known how to bring that up to him.
"I have an appointment scheduled for Thursday. That's all I'm willing to say on the matter, so if there's nothing else, you can f*ck off Rylan's tone was clipped and almost embarrassed if she had to guess.
To his credit. Ryan kept the smile on his face to a modest extent. "That's excellent news, Kylan. I'm glad for you. He looked at her now and she locked the tablet to meet his eye. "Katrina, how are you?" he asked her, a smile still fixed on his face.
It was damn near impossible for her not to react to the news that Kylan had made an appointment with a therapist. She was so happy and unbelievably relieved that he was being proactive. It would be healthy for him, but it would also mean everything to her relationship if that's what she would end up truly having with Kylan.
"I'm doing alright. Thank you, Ryan. For everything" Her face warmed as she remembered her confession to Ryan on Christmas Eve. He knew exactly what Kylan meant to her now. She wasn't certain how to process something like that, and so it joined the long list of variables she needed to sift through.
"It was my sincerest pleasure, Kate. I hope you'll both have a lovely evening. With that Ryan nodded his head at her and turned away to retreat back to his office.
She looked ar Kylan as soon as their CFO was out of sight. "You know you could try and be nicer to him. He was there for you just as much as I was He cleaned your entire apartment, Kylan. On Christmas Eve." Perhaps she was stepping out of line by saying something like this, but she couldn't help herself. Ryan had helped not only Kylan that night, but he came to her aid as well. He was the sole reason she was able to get through the evening at all, if she were honest with herself.
Kylan ran his hands down the expanse of his face once, before his fingers carded through his hair. He looked deep in thought for a moment, clicking his computer mouse a few times and then turning the monitor off and shifting to look at her.
"I am grateful for Erwin." He cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable.
She smiled at him, melting a bit at the knowledge that he was still trying to be receptive to her attempts for more clear-cut convenation. "He had quite a few stories to share that night after you went to bed." She stood from her chair, walking around Kylan's desk to plug in her tablet so it could charge for the night.
"Good God, what did he tell your Kylan rolled his eyes and joined her near his desk, looking at her expectantly.
She laughed at him with a shake of her head, "Look, I feel for your very first intem. Did you really make them clean your car three times, just because they spilled a drop of coffer on one of the seats?" She slipped her jacket over her shoulders and smirked at ham serious tone only made
"Are you aware of how expensive real leather seats are, Kate! It was a justified punishment for an absurd mistake. Kylan's serious ton her laugh and he sighed heavily at her, making his annoyance obvious:

him stepping onto the tips of her toes so she could place a quick kiss on his cheek.
Perhaps the action was inappropriate, but it felt right. It felt right, being close to Kylan. Touching him. Kissing him. And sometimes, she couldn't help herself.
If Kylan was bothered by her kiss, he didn't say anything. He even went as far as taking hold of her hand while she walked to the elevator, and that warmed her heart more than anything else could have.
"I don't like surprises, Kate. Or birthday gifts," Kylan grumbled as they stepped into the elevator. He pressed the button for the parking garage and frowned down at her.
"You'll like this one. I know you will." She hummed and checked the time on her watch, making sure she wouldn't be late for her reservation.
"I sincerely doubt that, but you've proved me wrong an ungodly amount lately." Kylan's eyes were fixed on the dwindling red floor numbers at the top of the elevator as they descended to the parking garage, but she smiled at him anyway. He had proven her wrong, too. In so many ways. In the very best of ways.
