Chapter 15
Angel's POV
I tossed and turned in bed, my mind racing with thoughts of Hendrix and his reckless behavior. I couldn't believe he was still chasing after girls, despite his condition. My anger simmered just below the surface, I frowned as I thought about it. I bit my lip, trying to calm myself down, but my frustration only grew. I threw off my covers and got out of bed, pacing back and forth across the room. My roommates stirred, but I didn't care. I was too angry to sleep.
I moved to the mini fridge in the room and got a glass of water to drink.
I still felt like there was something more though that Hendrix wasn't telling me. But I had mixed feelings now.
Why couldn't Hendrix just be responsible for once?
Why did he have to be so stupid?
As I stood there, my ears peaked up as I heard the sound of a faint cry. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but then I heard it again - a shrill, piercing sound that sent a chill down my spine.
I stopped pacing and stood still, my ears straining to hear the sound. And then, I heard it again. Someone was moving around. I froze, my heart beating faster.
I could tell it was coming from somewhere down the hall. I took a step forward, my eyes fixed on the door. What was that noise?
I moved carefully to the door, making sure not to wake my roommates. I pressed my ear against it, listening intently. The sound was strange, unlike anything I had ever heard before. It was like someone was crying, but it was too loud, too intense.
I put my hand in my mouth as I listened. What was happening? Where was the noise coming from?
The cry came again, louder this time. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I listened.
Just as suddenly as it started, the sound stopped. The silence was deafening. I stood there, my ear still pressed against the door, waiting to see if the sound would start again. But there was nothing.
I straightened up, my heart still racing. What had that been?
I slowly opened the door and peeked out into the hallway. It was dark and empty, the only sound was the creaking of the old building. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should investigate further. But my curiosity got the better of me. I stepped out into the hallway, my eyes scanning the darkness. Where did the sound come from? I had to find out.
As I moved down the hallway to the West Wing, where the sound had come from, I ran into Miss Stefan and Dr. Nixon. Miss Stefan's eyes looked tired, her expression worn out. Her eyes narrowed as she saw me, her expression disapproving. "What are you doing out of your room this late, Angel?" she asked, her voice stern.
I shrugged, my eyes fixed on hers. "I heard a sound. I was just investigating."
Miss Stefan's expression turned cold. "Angel, what the hell is wrong with you?" she asked, her voice laced with exhaustion. "Can't you just follow the rules for once?"
I just folded my arms in my chest and stared at them. "Who was that? What were you guys up to? Are you trying to hurt someone else like you did to my brother?" "Mind your own business, Angel. You've been told not to leave your room after curfew. Go back to bed." Miss Stefan said ignoring g my questions.
I scoffed, a smirk spreading across my face. "Of course you'd be here, Miss Stefan. You're always found wherever something ominous is happening. I'm not surprised."
Miss Stefan sighed, her shoulders sagging. "Angel, you can't keep doing this. You can't keep snooping around and asking questions. You'll only hurt yourself."
Dr. Nixon, on the other hand, looked intrigued. She watched me with a curious expression, her eyes sparkling with interest. She looked impressed. But I couldn't really tell but I was acting to bold and cheeky, my willingness to speak to Miss Stefan without fear.
"Actually, Miss Stefan, I think Angel's curiosity is quite... refreshing," her said, her voice smooth. "Don't you think we should encourage her to explore her interests?"
Miss Stefan shot her a look, her eyes flashing with annoyance. "No, ma'am," she said.
I smirked, "You guys are trying to cover something up. I can tell. I'm not stupid. I'll find out what's going on here, no matter what it takes."
Dr. Nixon stepped forward, her eyes watching me warily. "Angel, are you threatening your dorm mother? How can you speak to us like that?"
I laughed, a mocking sound. "Oh, I'm not threatening anyone. Yet. But I will find out what's going on here. And what you two are up to."
I glanced at both of them, my eyes challenging.
Dr. Nixon raised an eyebrow. "Sure, of course. Go ahead. Maybe you're onto something. Miss Stefan, don't you think you should listen to her concerns?"
Miss Stefan's face turned red with anger, but Dr. Nixon just chuckled. "Oh, come now, Miss Stefan. Let's not be too hasty. After all, curiosity is the key to discovery." She said, "She seems to think she can uncover some sort of truth. I'm curious to see how she plans to do that."
Miss Stefan smiled at that. It was rare and it was a small smile, barely even noticeable.
They were messing with me. That means there was something going on.
I rolled my eyes at them.
"Yeah, yeah... Mock me all you want. I am a very determined person. I don't say words without backing them with action."
"Your confidence amazes me, Angel. But I must warn you, the truth is not always easy to uncover. And sometimes, it's better left alone." Dr Nixon continued.
I laughed, a mocking sound. "I'm not afraid of the truth," I said. "And I'm definitely not afraid of you or Miss Stefan."
"We'll see about that, Angel," Miss Stefan said. "We'll see about that."
I turned and walked away, leaving them standing in the hallway.
As I walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was in over my head. How would I possibly find out what was going on? But one thing I was sure of - LiveLaughLong Wellness Center was not a normal place. The atmosphere was too strange, too oppressive. And Miss Stefan and Dr. Nixon were definitely hiding something.
I made a vow to myself to uncover the truth, no matter what it took.
