Chapter 20
Xavier's
POV
"Alpha," Greyson's voice rang in my ears, and I turned my gaze toward him.
We were on our way back home from a business trip in Europe. Greyson and I have only been gone a couple of days... not that I was much help, Greyson had to do most of the talking and negotiation. I was a bit distracted... and anxious about being away from Kate... "Yes?" I answered, annoyed about breaking my chains of thoughts.
Kate was the only thing that's been on my mind the last couple of days... Nothing else mattered to me anymore. As much as I tried to fight against the invisible bond between us, the more I wanted to be close to her...
I internally groaned as soon as her beautiful face flashed before my eyes...
I have missed her... I have missed her a lot... and my heart ached to have her in my arms again...
I closed my eyes for less than a second and Kate's emerald green eyes came alive behind my eyelids...
I can still taste her sweet strawberry lips on mine... Smell her lavender intoxicating scent.... and feel her soft touch leaving electric sparks on my skin...
Her whole being was siring me, calling me to be and obey her...
I wanted more... I needed more... I was lost without her!
At night I sought Kate's tender body next to me... my soul yearning to find her...
I was caught up in my battles... leaving me depressed without her...
I was slowly losing my mind.
"Kate's Welcoming Party," he answered, keeping my gaze.
"Yes, what about it?" I snapped.
"Are you..?"
"I am fine!" I growled, and jumped from my seat, pacing like a caged tiger up and down.
Greyson chuckled, found my actions funny, and shook his head.
He was enjoying me being uncomfortable with being away from my mate.
"That's not what I wanted to know, Xavier!" he said and turned serious, straightening his back, crossing his arms, and giving me a stern look.
Greyson was patient with me throughout the whole business trip and usually ignored my short temper. He knew what I had done... My mating with Kate created unnecessary pressure... the mate bond was slowly busy to force me to have Kate marked and claim her as mine... and to add to the discomfort, Ray was non-stop scratching at the surface to let out, creating major headaches in the process to keep him under control...
Yet, this time it looked as if Greyson had enough of my aloof mood...
"Oh?" I answered and took a seat again, "what did you want to know?"
"Are you still going to attend the party?" He finished his original question, holding my gaze.
"Yes," I answered, and let out a breath, "I have promised her I would be there..."
"Good," he answered, lifting his eyebrows, "it's tonight..."
"Why do I have a feeling something happened, and you didn't tell me?" I asked.
"I have already fixed the problem," he answered with a smile, "you just need to make the call..."
Greyson handed me the phone, and I lifted one of my eyebrows.
"Call her," he urged, "or should I get her online for you..?"
"You still didn't tell me..."
Greyson bent over and pressed the dial button on the phone's screen, and I growled annoyed at him. On the second ring, Kate answered.
"Hello, Kate speaking..." she answered and my heart warmed hearing her voice.
"It's me, Xavier," I replied, "just checking in if you are ready for your big night..?"
"Hi, Xavier," she answered, sounding a bit frustrated, and my gaze snapped toward Greyson, smiling at me.
What the hell was he planning?
"Just busy searching for a new dress," she answered, sounding depressed, "Erika had a little accident and she spilled wine on mine..."
Greyson's smile grew even wider, and he got up and took a few steps down the narrow path of the plane and picked up a box.
"Tell her not to worry," Greyson said, "you will send her something to wear..."
I nodded my head at him.
"Kate," I said, and I could hear her pause, focusing her attention on me, "go get your hair and makeup done, my driver will bring you something fabulous to wear..." "But..." Kate hesitated, yet I stopped her before she freaked out.
"The dress is made to your size. If you don't like the dress, just return it to the driver and he will bring you something else..."
"How..?" Kate asked and a smile formed on the corners of my lips.
I was sure she was wondering how I would know how I got her size.
"Don't worry love," I said, "just make sure you are home at three..."
"Okay-y-y, Xavier..." she answered in disbelief, "uhm, thank you!" She said, "You are a lifesaver..."
"No need to thank me yet..." I replied, "And Kate..."
"Yes, Xavier..." her sweet voice was full of emotion.
"I will have the driver pick you up at seven..."
I cut the call and found Greyson's gaze.
"You better have Cinderella's dress in there, or else!" I warned him.
"Much better," he answered, "Kelly ordered it from some famous designer while we were in Europe. She sent the woman the sizes, told her she had a very short deadline... and made me collect them before we left..." "Them?" I asked, tilting my head.
I vaguely remember Greyson stepping out of the hotel last night, but I assumed that he went out looking for a gift for Kelly...
"Uhm, yes," he answered, and smiled, "she had a suit tailored for you to..."
"Thank her for me..."
"I will do..."
"Alpha," the captain called, and I turned my attention to him, "we are about to land."
"Thank you, Robert," I answered and buckled in.
Thirty minutes later, we landed, and Greyson and I disembarked the plane. My regular driver waited for us in the VIP parking area and opened the passenger door as soon as he spotted me. "Welcome back, Alpha," the driver greeted me, and I got in.
"It is good to be back," I replied, and the driver closed the door.
As soon as Greyson and the driver got into the SUV, the driver waited for his instructions.
"Take us home, James," Greyson said and sat back.
"Yes, sir!"
Greyson turned toward me and another smile followed on his lips...
I cocked an eyebrow at him, worried about what he was planning next...
