Her Revenge Contract

Chapter 5

Katherine POV

"No! Xavier!"

I immediately rejected his proposal.

When I saw his face turn serious, I felt like I might have said the wrong thing.

But... I was well aware of my current mission and responsibility.

I never expected him to ask me to be his Luna. Although I admitted he appeared to be a perfect and very attractive mate.

"Thanks for being so kind," my tone softened, "Xavier, I'm glad we met, and I appreciate you saving me."

"If I were still the daughter loved by Andrew King, I might have accepted your proposal and become your Luna. But now, I have my own responsibilities and mission. I must seek revenge before becoming your Luna." My words got Xavier all serious. His handsome face tightened up, and he looked unusually cold and stern, like he was seriously considering what I said.

The room was silent, and soon he gave an answer.

"I respect your decision, Kate."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

I had no idea what would happen if he disagreed. Fortunately, Xavier still seemed friendly with me, at least for now.

"But hey, I can still help you," Xavier smiled.

"Why?" I widened my eyes in disbelief.

"Even though you turned down my proposal, you're still my mate, right?" Xavier looked at me with those tender eyes. "I'm the CEO of Black Umbrella Corporation. With my help, you will get your revenge faster."

What Xavier said was right, but honestly, after experiencing the betrayal of my dearest aunt, I no longer dared to trust anyone easily. And Xavier, although he was my mate, was also a competitor of King Enterprises... Was he helping me just because I was his mate?

"I'm not helping for free," Xavier seemed to understand my concerns. He looked at me and said seriously.

Yeah, no one does anything for free in this world.

I blinked, "So what are your conditions?"

Xavier lowered his head and started searching on his phone. Soon, he pointed to a news article about my memorial service.

"Go back and stop this memorial service. Show me you're capable of revenge."

I agreed to Xavier's condition.

Soon, he had someone escort me to the venue of the memorial service, which was a small stage center in the foyer of King Enterprises...

The internal decorations haven't changed, except that the marble building feels extra cold now that my father isn't alive anymore... He always had this warm personality, drawing people to me, whereas my mother was this elegant, smart woman who would turn heads when she entered a room...

I shook my head, forcing the grey thoughts out of my mind, and looked at the speaker on the stage who was reporting.

"Recently, King Enterprises lost their CEO in a horrific car accident on route 72 where CEO Andrew King and his wife Lidia King lost both their lives..." the reporter's sounded.

Today I knew that it wasn't just a vehicle accident... yet I still needed the proof of how they did it...

"Today we will be saying goodbye to their daughter, the only heiress of the King Enterprises Group in the form of a memorial service. Miss. Katherine King, unfortunately, lost her life when she slipped and fell and accidentally landed in the river five days ago..." That was my cue for my grand entrance and I stepped forward, removing my black sunglasses and sun hat...

The reporter's gaze suddenly found mine, and I lifted my hand and smiled shyly at her.

Her facial expression changed from sadness to disbelief and then to shock...

"Y-y-you are Katherine K-k-king!" She stood up in surprise.

"Rose is not dead!"

"Rose is back!"

The group's voices were full of excitement... yet, some sounded as if they were doubting what they were seeing was true... and others seemed to shiver like they were seeing a ghost... Oh my Goddess, this was so fun, I was enjoying the attention...

My gaze scanned the group of people, seeing my uncle, aunt, and cousin moving toward the small stage in the center of the foyer surrounded by employees coming to pay their respect. I suddenly wondered if my pack ever paid their respect and if my sudden 'death' was just swept under the carpet...

The commotion outside had drawn their attention, and my cousin lifted her gaze.

"No one is dead? Did she cheat death?"

I chuckled under my breath when a reporter asked my uncle if he knew I was standing outside, and he frowned, turning his gaze to my aunt...

My aunt lifted her shoulders to answer a silent question, and when she turned, searching for my face in the crowd of people, and when she found me her face turned white as wax. There was no way that so many people could make a mistake recognizing me...

"John," she whispered bewildered to my uncle, "would she remember what had happened to her?"

"If she comes back, even if she talks about what has happened, we will make sure we crush her like a bug... If we could get rid of her once, we can do so again..." he sneered between gritted teeth.

The crowd of people made way for me and pushed me forward toward the small stage. Everyone was interested in knowing how I was still alive.

My uncle walked closer to me. When he froze in front of me, I slowly lifted my gaze to find his eyes were grey out of anger, yet his face was ashed like the rest of the crowd... he surely didn't expect me to be still alive...

"Kate?" I whispered, his eyes growing wide, "How are you? Why didn't you call and tell us that you were alive? Everyone was going crazy looking for you!"

"My apologies, " I said, "I just woke from a coma after being rescued from the river... I can't remember anything. I didn't know who I was until I saw the news on TV and my photo appeared..." I explained, and then turned my gaze to my aunt and cousin, asking the question that would open the doors for me...

"Who are you?"

My uncle froze, and his gaze moved over my face, searching for any clue that I was lying... then turned to his mate, and nodded his head.

"I am your uncle, John," he introduced himself, "this is Aunt Rose, and this is your cousin, Erika."

John pointed to his wife and daughter to introduce them.

I stood frozen, looking them up and down as if I had never met them before.

John, suddenly acted emotionally, crabbing me around the shoulders.

"Poor child, you have suffered so much..."

"Uhm, Uncle John..." I said, biting the urge back to let my temper loose and scratch his eyes out, but instead, I turned toward Xavier, standing next to me, "This is Xavier who saved me..."

My uncle's eyes widened in shock and he took a step back, observing him. He surely knows who Xavier was.

When the reporters heard that Xavier saved me, they went wild taking photos and asking questions.

The wolves around us quickly formed a human wall, and no reporters were allowed to come close to us...

Xavier nodded his head at John, yet didn't say a single word... he was observing and the intensity in his eyes was striking...

"Mister Black," John stuck out his hand, "my greatest gratitude for saving my niece's life... in that, you saved King's Enterprises... I would like to thank you personally and invite you to dinner..."

He then turned back to me, and looked me up and down, "Kate, you have lost some weight... would you return home to us?"

I knew he would ask me to come home, it would be too difficult for him to try and control me if I didn't...

Only this time, I knew what was coming and as long as I could keep up the front of having Amnesia, I would succeed in my goals and find proof that they killed my family...

A smile pulled at the corner of my lips... John wouldn't know what was coming to him...
