Kiss of A Titan

Chapter 29

After getting dressed up early for school the following day, I went downstairs hoping to see Tom and Nora already settling down for breakfast but aunt hadn't finished serving the meal yet and was still in the kitchen making adequate preparations for everyone to eat before leaving the house for our individual routines particularly aunt whom I found in the kitchen already dressed up in her natty suit and black skirt for the office whilst putting things together for everyone to have a good breakfast with the groceries she had bought from the supermarket a week after we arrived in town.

It was only after I had met her in the kitchen when I came downstairs that I remembered the last words of the coach to inform her about my unofficial acceptance in the athletic team which was yet to be certified according to the coach himself. Aunt had already got the kids ready to leave the house as well and they were busy playing with themselves at the dining table. They didn't notice when I walked past them to the kitchen with my handbag dangling down from my left shoulder, especially Tom who was playing with his superman action figure. I stopped abruptly at the kitchen doorstep when I noticed my aunt already dressed up for work and crossed my arms as I watched her busy preparing our breakfast. I waited patiently for a while not to interrupt but I knew I had to intervene since I wanted to be sure if she would change her mind and from the look of things, she may likely not drive me to school this time around judging from her outfit since it was obviously only when she was dressed up in her working outfit quite early in the morning after giving her two kids a clean bath, that she has something urgent to do in the office and dropping me off in school today may likely not happen.

Before I could say what I had thought out in my mind, she quickly took notice of my presence and was the first to break the silence.

"You're dressed for school early", She said without looking and took a slice on the bread she had placed on the table with a kitchen knife. Then she placed the sliced bread with butter that lay exposed inside a little branded container beside three flat plates on which two sandwiches and some oily pieces of sardines rested separately except for the last plate wanting the sandwich she was making to complete the ratio she already had planned for all three of us. "And you pretty much woke up early as well", I said and walked further into the kitchen.

"Kinda have to rush to the office", "I can see that but before.....",

I took a slight pause thinking if it was the perfect timing to tell her about my brief meeting with the coach.

"Whatever you gotta tell me, please make it snappy because I don't have the time", She said still busy making the last sandwich. I felt nervous and a bit doubtful about bringing the issue which might spark off another quarrel between us and I know it won't do me much good if we were to argue about it again but the time was wearing thin but I thought it was best to let her know about it since I already gotten her curious that I had something important to say.

"Before saying anything... let me know if what you are going to say to me important or do you just love wasting my time", She asked again when I failed to say the words out of my mouth.

"Uh... Yes, aunt...it is kinda important", I stuttered, unsure of what to say.

"Then say the goddamn thing that's eating you up", "I got accepted into the athletic team but-", "You what?",!

She shrieked aloud and stopped what she was doing with the sandwich. Her two hands were covered by transparent cellophane on her waist and glared at me in shock.

"Let me explain, aunt. I know you are upset about this but....", "I thought you would have a change of heart after our argument but you still went ahead to see the coach...That's total betrayal", "You gotta understand the reason why I'm doing this and I really need your support", "I don't think you'll get it from me. Not this time, Rosalie", "I knew you wouldn't agree to this. Please for my sake, I promise to be obedient if you could let me take this chance...", I retorted doggedly in spite of her unwillingness to listen to me. We both fell silent after a brief moment of argument erupted between us.

"I need to do something new and this is a perfect chance for me to forget what happened in the past", I said feebly and drew closer. She could see tears whelming up in my eyes and felt emotionally stabbed by the word to the point that she couldn't argue any further. She exhaled deeply and rested both of her hands on the table to let out the anger inside of her. Then she peered at me for a long time as soon as she was able to control herself. "Alright, if that's what'll make you feel better in your new school, I'm not going to stop you....So anything else?", "You agree to let me in the team, right?", I sniffed and wiped off a teardrop with my fingers.

"As much as I still feel it's not the best for you, Yes, I won't object if you wanna do acrobatics", She replied and returned back to complete what she was doing with the sandwich.

"Then you promise to provide the gears for my training", "Gears?", "Yeah, the coach said parents must approve of this and....", "That's the reason for confronting me so early in the morning", "You aren't mad right?", I asked not too sure of her reaction now that she had known the reason why I had stopped by the kitchen instead of leaving the house. She sighed before responding to my question.

"I'm not mad at all....It just...we could have discuss this last night instead of bringing it in the morning and I barely have the time to hear the whole details",

"Sorry for catching you off guard....So, that's a yes, I guess?", I said trying the possible best not to get her upset any further than she already looked. She hesitated for a while but she responded after taking a brief moment to rethink her decision.

"For now, yes but as for how long you'll be in the team, I'll think about it", "That's great to hear", I said delightfully and went over to where she is. I embraced her unexpectedly even when she didn't seem to appear amused about receiving a lovely hug. As for me, I didn't seem to care about the fact that aunt 's hands were still covered by the nylon which was soiled by the vegetables she was using to make the sandwich and pressed myself against her with every bit of her suit pressing against my bosom. She gave me a peck on the lips and I returned it as well before hugging her tightly.

"That's enough, Rosalie... You'll rumple my suit if you keep on holding me like this", She groaned in my arms and I promptly let her break free from the embrace.

"Thanks, aunt and huh....sorry for almost suffocating you", "No need to apologize... Grab your Sandwich and eat it quickly before you leave for school", she ordered as she returned back to place the last sandwich on the third plate but I was already so excited that I headed towards the door instead of taking one of the plates like she ordered. She saw me heading towards the door and called out to me before I could leave the kitchen.

"Aren't you going to have breakfast with the kids?", "Nah...I think I'll grab something to eat later, bye", I replied and waved back at her before leaving the house for the bus stop.
