Lost and Found: Return of My Mysterious Fiancee

Chapter 759: Ma’am, Stop Talking

"Dad!"

"Mr. Dyer!"

Four voices rang out at the same time.

Hannah let out a faint sound from her throat, her half-closed eyes struggling to open wider. Her condition was no better than Joseph Dyers'. The fact that she had held on for this long was already a miracle. But now, seeing her husband collapse, the old woman couldn't catch her breath. Her legs gave out, and she too began to fall.

Fortunately, Jared and Tina moved quickly, catching both elders before they hit the ground.

If they hadn't, the slippery floors of the police station would have surely caused the elderly couple to break their bones.

Elsa's eyes were bloodshot, her dry tears clinging painfully to the corners of her eyes. Her voice trembled with rage.

"Frank Gill! My in-laws haven't even been convicted of anything, and now you're trying to make them die without a chance to defend themselves?!"

Frank Gill was just as shocked.

He hadn't been the one to detain them. He had only checked on them during a shift change. At that time, the elderly couple had been stable, though visibly nervous. They had shown no signs of being in such a dire state. Now, this? How had things deteriorated so quickly?

His sharp, hawk-like eyes turned to a junior officer standing nearby, his gaze filled with accusation.

"What's going on here?!"

"I-I don't know!" the officer stammered, his body trembling.

Though he usually followed the deputy captain's orders, everyone in the station knew how upright and unyielding Captain Gill was. If the captain found out he had deliberately turned the air conditioning down to freezing levels, his career at the station would be over.

The junior officer cast a furtive glance at Kelly, hoping for guidance. But to his dismay, Kelly had been staring at Jared ever since the man arrived, her makeup-perfect eyes filled with blatant admiration.

The officer cursed internally. *Seriously? Now's the time for you to swoon over someone?*

Frank Gill's eyes narrowed even further when the officer didn't answer. His tone grew colder.

"You don't know? You've been guarding the holding cell. If you don't know, do I need to pull the surveillance footage myself?"

Tina removed her hands from the pulses of the elderly couple and fixed her frosty gaze on the young officer, before shifting it to Kelly, and then to Frank Gill.

"Captain Gill," Tina said icily, "does your station keep the air conditioning so low that it freezes detainees into unconsciousness? I need an explanation."

Her sharp eyes landed on Kelly next, her tone turning faintly mocking.

"And who is this... *ma'am*? Can she just take suspects out of the station as she pleases? I need an explanation for that too."

Kelly's eyes widened in disbelief. *Ma'am?*

Who was this woman? Did she have no manners? Kelly wasn't even thirty yet-how could she call her "ma'am"?

Mr. Powell's face twisted in frustration as he looked at Kelly. *This idiot! Does she even know what she's doing?!*

Mrs. Ogden, however, was quicker to act. Her eyes burned with fury as she pointed an accusing finger at Frank Gill and Tina.

"Mrs. Farrell? Oh, so that's who you are. Fine, very fine. You just wait! I won't let this go! That old man ruined my daughter's life, and I'll make sure he pays for it!" With that, she spun around and stormed out.

Mr. Powell hesitated, glancing between the people left behind. After a moment of indecision, he chose to follow Mrs. Ogden.

"Captain Gill, just wait! Tomorrow, I'm reporting you for collusion! You can count on losing your position!"

Tina watched their retreating figures, her eyes glinting coldly.

After a moment, she turned her attention back to the elderly couple. She and Elsa carefully moved them to a bench. Tina pulled a small bottle of pills from her pocket and handed it to Elsa.

"Give them one of these pills each. Their condition isn't critical-just a result of poor health compounded by the cold. They fainted because their bodies couldn't handle the stress. As for the red marks on their skin, if I'm not mistaken, those are mosquito bites." "...Mosquitoes?"

Frank Gill's frown deepened.

"Miss Reed, are you joking? The holding cells are sealed. How could there be mosquitoes?"

Tina let out a cold laugh. "You'll have to ask this officer here."

She shifted her gaze to the junior officer, whose face had gone pale. Then her eyes drifted to Kelly, who had been staring blankly at Jared with a dazed expression.

Jared, noticing Tina's attention, smiled faintly. His dark, gentle eyes held a trace of amusement.

"What's wrong, Tina?"

He stood behind her, his presence commanding. He was still dressed in the tailored dark red suit his stylist team had prepared for the company's event earlier that evening.

The dark fabric, dusted with specks of gold, enhanced his striking features, making him look almost otherworldly-like a seductive, dangerous deity from myth.

Tina glanced at Kelly again, her lips twitching slightly. "Why are you dressed so extravagantly?"

Jared tilted his head, his smile deepening. "Tina, are you jealous?"

"Yes, I am."

Her almond-shaped eyes sparkled as her long lashes fluttered, brushing against Jared's heart like feathers. His dark eyes brightened with amusement.

He leaned closer, his lips parting as if to say something, but Kelly finally seemed to notice that Jared's attention was entirely focused on Tina.

The infatuation in her expression morphed into jealousy. Her bangs fell slightly over her face, hiding the dark emotions flickering in her eyes. Forcing a smile, Kelly stepped forward.

"Miss Reed, hello. I'm Ella's sister. I've heard her mention you before. I'm terribly sorry for all the trouble caused today."

Her voice was soft and polite, but Tina noticed the way Kelly's lips twitched as she spoke.

Jared's gaze darkened as Kelly mentioned the Bailey family.

"This is the Bailey family's doing," Jared said bluntly, his tone cold.

Kelly's smile stiffened, but she quickly recovered, shaking her head.

"No, no, not the Bailey family! Mr. Farrell, I apologize deeply. My sister has always had a bad temper, and her husband... well, he had some history with Mrs. Dyer. That's why my sister often targets her. But she doesn't mean any harm. She's just... upset. This time, she probably got into a fight with her husband again and-"

Kelly trailed off with a delicate shrug, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her slender fingers rested lightly on her chest as she sighed, half apologetic, half exasperated.

"I only heard about this incident by chance, and I rushed over immediately. I know Mr. and Mrs. Dyer are innocent. I'm so sorry for the trouble caused. Please, let me treat you to a meal to make amends."

"You're saying this is all Ella Bailey's doing again?"

Elsa had been soothing her in-laws, but her ears caught every word of the conversation. At the mention of Ella Bailey's name, her expression darkened.

Years of resentment and frustration surged to the surface.

"What does she want? I've told her time and time again-if she has a problem, she can come after me. Why does she keep hurting my family?"

Kelly's smile faltered. "I... I don't know."
