Chapter 310
After the live broadcast, the organizers of Weekend Party reached out to Soren with two options: they could either replace Elizabeth with someone else or postpone their appearances until the situation calmed down.
Elizabeth rubbed her temples, feeling the weight of the situation.
Who knows when this will be over.
Lets just replace me with someone else.
Ruby thought for a moment before shaking her head.
No, that wont work.
Youre part of the same cast.
If we replace you, your situation will still come up.
Its better to fix this first and worry about promotion later.
Elizabeth passed Rubys advice along to Soren, who agreed with her reasoning.
They decided it would be best to delay their appearance on the show for now.
The following morning, Elizabeth woke up and went downstairs to find Elijah sitting on the sofa, still dressed in his tailored suit with his tie neatly knotted.
He must have just returned.
When he heard her footsteps, he slowly raised his eyes to meet hers.
Elizabeths first thought was that he had come back because of her.
She remembered how he had shut down Yara the day before, and it made her realize she owed him a debt of gratitude.
Gathering her thoughts, Elizabeth gave him a small smile, poured him a glass of water, and said, Thank you for what you did with Yara.
He accepted the water, looked out the window with a faint smirk, and remarked with a touch of sarcasm, Well, I guess the sun didnt come up in the west today, did it? And yet, youre still thanking me? There was a subtle exhaustion in his demeanor, as though hed rushed back in a hurry.
Elizabeth felt a small stir of emotion and quickly checked the time, then changed the subject.
Its nearly noon.
What would you like to eat? Ill make something for you.
For a moment, Elijah was flooded with nostalgia, remembering when Elizabeth used to wait at home, always with a hot meal ready for him.
He had once thought their daily life was simple and unchanging, like the furniture in their home that always stayed in its place.
But in just a few months, everything had changed.
A vague sadness washed over him, and he blurted out, Oxtail soup.
Elizabeth peeked into the kitchen and shook her head.
No oxtail.
How about beef stew instead? Elijah frowned, his tone laced with a hint of frustration.
You always used to buy the ingredients ahead of time.
Exactly, I used to, she replied sharply.
Once upon a time, gold was two hundred a unit.
Things change, though.
Whether grateful or not, she couldnt keep being the one who always catered to his every whim.
Elijah, seeing her point, finally relented.
Fine, beef stews fine.
How about with tomatoes? Elizabeth shut the fridge door and shook her head.
No tomatoes left.
What about just a clear broth beef stew? Elijah paused, unable to find a response.
Elizabeth didnt glance at him again and walked into the kitchen, her back turned toward him.
Elijah lingered for a moment, then turned and made his way upstairs.
A little while later, Willow quietly walked into the kitchen.
Maam, can I help with anything? No thanks, Ill manage.
Elizabeth turned around and noticed Willow holding her phone, scrolling through Twitter.
On the screen, she saw a post from Sandra announcing her guest spot on Weekend Party.
Elizabeth let out a sharp, bitter laugh.
Was Sandra doing this on purpose, just to twist the knife deeper? Elizabeth couldnt be on the show, so Sandra didnt hesitate to take her place.
Willow smiled and handed her phone to Elizabeth.
My son watches that show every week.
I think I overheard you and Ms.
Sophia talking about it yesterday.
You were planning to join, too, werent you? Yes, Elizabeth replied absently, her gaze drifting toward the staircase as her mind wandered.
Why had Elijah actually returned? Was it for her? Or was it to ensure that Sandra got the Weekend Party slot? Lost in her own thoughts, Elizabeth failed to notice the small, satisfied smile tugging at the corners of Willows lips.
