My Sister's Boyfriend

Chapter 08

I packed my new beach chair; planting your feet firmly in the sand. Completely clumsily, I placed my purse and bags on the chair next to me, also firmly on the floor. I adjusted myself in the chair and stretched out, satisfied with the pleasant late afternoon breeze on my face. The sun had softened and the sky was a calming indigo blue, the clouds passed slowly as if dancing over the sky and the sea seemed to smile at me.

I was on vacation with my dad, his girlfriend and her brother. They decided to come to the beach, far from the capital, to spend New Year's so we were staying in a hotel. A really nice hotel, new, with good service and a large number of tourists. I looked ahead, spotting the surfer I had seen earlier. He balanced easily between waves in frightening intimacy. I envied him, I didn't like going into the sea. I liked feeling him on my shins, his smell and I loved looking at him. But I was terrified of diving into that blue immensity, often appearing furious, as if inviting me to get lost inside. And I was terrified of drowning. Did you avoid the pool and the sea, then? Enemy, but at the same time a dear and well-known friend. To be honest, the only thing with a high concentration of water that I looked at was the bathtub, I loved my bathtub. Maybe I was just afraid of the waves and how they dragged everything around. Slowly inviting them to board the sea. Just like that surfer. I just started watching him out of distraction. Just distraction... I didn't look at him because he looked wonderfully handsome and athletic. Of course not! I watched him because he surfed well. Too well! After some time 'distracting' myself, I ended up feeling hungry and went looking through my bag. Opening none other than... A Mc Donalds snack. I knew it was rubbish, it was terribly bad for your health, I even liked salad, I always ate vegetables since I was little. But; Heavens, I couldn't resist a good Mc Donalds snack! I looked like a city bumpkin, in the middle of the beach with my box of...

- MC happy snack? - A hoarse voice said above me.

I jumped up in the chair. I looked up, coming face to face with the boy on the board. He answered the question in my eyes quickly, as if he really knew what I was thinking. - You were alone and your eyes seemed to call me, so... Here I am. - My eyes calling you? - I controlled a laugh. We started our contact well, I thought. A song of that caliber? Wow. I fell in love. - Wow, man... That was really bad.

-You're right. - He made a momentary grimace, but smiled at my sincerity. Still wet; and heavens, how good he looked in just his swim trunks. He placed the board on the floor next to the other chair, took out my purses and bags and placed them on the floor and sat down next to me. Looking at the sea...

- Hey, that's my chair. - I complained, he smiled brightly, adjusting himself in the chair.

- I know, I didn't think you would mind.

- But I care.

- It's just a little bit, for me to think about.

- Think about what?

- In a pickup line good enough to convince you to stay with me. He tilted his head, looking in my direction.

Between the two songs, I choose the first.

- Is that a yes?

- No... That's one: shut up and go back to the sea, dolphin friend. He let out a loud, melodious laugh. I looked at him, he remained slumped in the chair. I couldn't deny that he was handsome with his athletic physique; short, blonde hair and an open smile. Unable to contain myself, I smiled back.

-I think I was very stupid. We can start over?

- It depends.

- Than?

-Will there be more songs?

- Perhaps...

- Then I give up on you. - he laughed again, loudly and melodically, in a shuddering way, shaking his body and raising the hairs on the back of my neck. What a delicious and contagious laugh, I thought. Not just laughter, he concludes. He laughed softer this time. Overcome by his laughter, I stretched out my hand. - My name is Malu.

- Igor. He shook my hand for too long. Until I pulled it a little harder. - So... Do you come here often?

- I give you a second chance and all you have is this? - I started laughing at the situation and he followed me. -Technically it's your fault.

- Khan?

- You make me nervous. - I looked at him in disbelief. He was terrible at flirting, verbally speaking, but all his fascination was contained in his voice, and in his eyes. I almost didn't care what he said. He could recite a Latin passage from the Bible and it would still sound pleasant. His presence was pleasant. - Believe me, it's stranger to me than it is to you.

- Oh... - We remained silent and I didn't know what to do. Normally I was very loose, especially when I was semi-interested in someone. I wasn't good with boys, not in the sense of relating to anything beyond a kiss or two and long conversations about skateboard models. But now around this guy, I just... I didn't know what to say.

- You know? - he took me out of my reveries.

- What?

- Surfing... - he said, pointing to the sea.

- I don't even know how to float.

- Serious? - he said, laughing lightly.
