Chapter 1485
"You've hurt my wife twice now, and you think you can just walk away without even checking with me?" Colby's voice had barely faded when a flash of gunfire erupted from the dark barrel of his gun, but Kiran didn't flinch. The bullet grazed his shoulder, and blood splattered everywhere.
"Colby!" Sophie was shocked that Colby had fired with such calm precision. The tension in the air tightened like a coiled spring.
"Bro!" Sandy rushed over from the courtyard, her face a picture of worry as she saw the wound on Kiran's shoulder.
Even though Kiran was in pain, he managed a smile. "Now, can you stop blaming your brother?"
"I..." Kiran's men seemed prepared for this kind of incident and immediately stepped forward to tend to his wound.
"If Mr. Colby isn't satisfied, I still owe you a hit. Let's settle it today."
"No way!" Sandy quickly shielded Kiran, declaring, "My brother's hurt. If you need to strike someone, strike me! Sophie, whatever my brother owes you, I'll make it right!"
Sophie hadn't come for this confrontation. Watching Kiran calmly manage a conversation while getting his wound treated gave her chills. What kind of mental strength did this man possess?
"Sandy, this isn't about you. Go back," Kiran said gently.
"I won't! What if they hurt you again?"
"Go back, Sandy. They can't hurt me." Kiran's tone was steady and reassuring.
Only Colby and Sophie knew he wasn't bluffing. When Colby had drawn his gun, Kiran had reacted but chose not to move, knowing Sandy was running towards him. He'd rather take a hit himself, playing the martyr to win his sister's sympathy.
Sophie was at a loss for words about Kiran's act.
"Sandy, I'm not going anywhere just yet. Go back, and I'll come see you soon." Kiran comforted her, but Sandy was reluctant to leave.
Kiran gave a subtle nod to the butler, who stepped forward, "Miss, if you please."
Sandy wanted to argue but stopped when Kiran gave her a look, "If you keep being stubborn, I'll have to carry you up myself."
She glanced at his wound and knew she couldn't let him exert himself. Her brother always kept his promises.
With no other choice, Sandy bit her lip and followed the butler out of the yard.
Sophie could see just how much Kiran cared for Sandy. Keeping her close to him seemed like the best decision.
"Mr. Angelo, it looks like we're at an impasse today. Odie is one of ours, and I can't just hand him over. As for the gemstone you mentioned-I'm not eager to give that up either. But if you're willing to share where the gemstone came from and why The Silent Shadows need it, maybe I'd consider it," Sophie said earnestly.
Someone else might have been swayed by Sophie's words, but Kiran just chuckled. Ms. Sophie, if you want to know the gemstone's purpose or why The Silent Shadows want it, it's simple. Join us, and you'll find out the uses of the gemstone and those four jewels. But asking me directly isn't going to work. My goals aren't the same as The Silent Shadows'. The ones who took Odie weren't my people, and the gemstone is safer with me. Besides, it originally belonged to my family."
