Chapter Hers To Ruin
Lavender scented candles. Maple syrup with blueberry pancakes and cottage cheese. It smells so good
Hera smiled heartily in her sleep as the aroma from the meal hit her nostrils causing her to salivate. Who could be making such a delicious meal so early in the morning? It smells Divine. Could it be Bryce? She highly doubted that. The man doesn't even know his way around the kitchen talk more of making such a masterpiece. She has been the one doing most of the cooking for weeks now.
She groaned deeply, her lips halfway parted as she tried her best to squint her eyes closed when the warm rays of the sun seeped through the curtains of the bedroom and hit her face through the covers. She turned to the other side of the bed and slowly opened her eyes to take in her surrounding. That's when it hit her that she wasn't in her bedroom.
Memories from last night and what had happened between the both of them flooded through her head and she jerked awake in an instant, pushing the covers off the upper part of her body. She became self conscious and alarmed when she realized that she was naked under the covers. It really did happen. She did go through with it didn't she? Somehow, she felt a little tinge of guilt and possibly regret but she tried her best to surpress those thoughts from taking root in her head. It had already happened and there was no point in feeling guilty anyways.
Pushing those thoughts at the back of her head, she tried to make it out of bed but her entire body restricted her from making such a preposterous movement. She felt sore and her body was utterly brutalized so she couldn't. After many failed attempts, she gave up the idea of even trying to stand.
"Breakfast coming through." She heard the familiar sound of Bryce as he approached the bedroom. Petrified, she gathered the bloodstained sheets but before she could make an attempt to hide them, Bryce had already walked into the room.
She flushed feeling embarrassed. Her cheeks heated up as she squeezed the thick covers, trying her very best to avoid his piercing gaze. He had caught her red-handed. There's no escaping this one even if she tried to.
"Good morning Cara." He greeted lovingly and placed the tray that he had brought at the side of the desk. He joined her on the bed and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Did you sleep well?"
She nodded once, praying in her hearts of hearts that he doesn't talk about the sheets that she was struggling so hard to hide but instead he grabbed them from her hands. They both struggled with it until she eventually let go, her eyes downcast.
"I'll wash them or get you a new one..." She trailed off but he only smiled at her. His Hera had always been so innocent and it always brought a smile to his face whenever she acted the way she did.
"I'll take care of this." He answered instead. "Hera i am not upset about this. If anything, i am very happy and proud. You don't have to feel sorry about this because last night was the best night of my entire life and i wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you." She smiled at his heartfelt words, not knowing exactly how to react or respond to what he had just said to her.
"I made you breakfast in bed." He announced proudly in an attempt to change the subject and lighten the mood. It did work because then, she wasn't so invested in the previous topic anymore.
Hera glanced at the tray and back at his face. "I know you Bryce and i know for a fact that you don't know how to cook so how did you manage this?"
He chuckled and placed the tray on the bed in front of her. "You underestimate me a lot woman. I'm a full package, you just don't realize it yet."
She furrowed her brows at him,
urging him to say the truth because deep down, she knew that he wasn't
t
telling the truth. There's no way he could've made this. He was surprisingly good at other areas of his life but definitely not the kitchen. She had even forbidden him countless times from going there. Last time he tried to help out, he almost blew out the microwave. That's how bad he was.
"Alright fine!" He raised his hands in surrender. "I did fry the first batch of pancakes but um...it didn't turn out well." He confessed. "They were sugar infested so i asked Mariam to help out. I did make the coffee though and I guarantee that you will like it." "Well it's the thought that counts anyways. Thank you for breakfast Bryce. I really like it."
Bryce felt his heart do a little flutter. How does she do it? How is she always able to make his smallest efforts look so big. He had only made her breakfast. It's not like he offered her the world on a platter but still, she always appreciated him She always appreciated the little things. She was the most simple Woman that he had ever come across. Her compliments always motivates him and push him to do more. He had always found himself at her mercy. This little woman was his ruin and to think that he never thought a woman could bring him to his knees in this manner.
Leaning forward, he kissed her full on the lips. "Eat up quickly so we can get ready. The sooner we leave, the faster we arrive at the convent."
Her eyes shone in bewilderment. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. "You still want to go? Really?"
He scratched his head. "Yes. I already promised sister Martha that i would think about it so i did think about it. Plus, I'll be bored to death in this house for an entire weekend without you here. I may end up not liking it but you'll be there with me the entire time so I'll be fine." Pushing the tray aside, she protested against her pains and threw her arms around him. "Thank you very much."
She knew just how much churches, God and the likes of it terrified him giving the fact that he doesn't believe in them but he was still willing to take that step because of her. It made her feel warm inside. She felt happy knowing that he was doing this for her.
Bryce chuckled. His voice resonating throughout the walls of the bedroom. "Not a problem Cara. Now have your breakfast quickly and I'll run you a bath when you're done."
Hera obeyed his words like a little
child that was offered Candy. She
finished her breakfast and true to his
words, he ran her a bath as promised and she soaked herself in therr for a while, letting the water work its way on her tired body. When she was done bathing, she helped pack up the remainder of his bags and together the loaded them into the car trunk.
"You sure you'll be fine by yourself for the whole weekend Mariam?" Bryce asked the older woman who brushed off his question.
"This isn't the first time I'll be home alone." She answered with a placating smile. "Don't you worry about me Sir. I'll be fine." She added and Bryce surprised her by hugging her. This was the very first time he was doing so. She was stunned by his attitude but she tried her best not to react to it. Instead, she hugged him back.
"Call us if you need anything." He said to her.
"I will. You both have fun." She said and it was Hera's turn to hug her too. After exchanging goodbyes, the got into the car. Bryce wasn't sure what awaited him there or if he had even made the right decision to go. He wasn't sure if he was ready to face his demons yet but hopefully, things doesn't get to that.
