Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage

Chapter Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage 66

Chapter 66 Mr. Locke Doesn’t Want to Be a Kept Man

As Adrian glanced at his phone, he realized it was almost 8:00 am. For someone who valued time as much as he did, sleeping this late–even on a weekend–was unusual.

Opening the bedroom door, he was greeted by the sound of activity in the kitchen and the unmistakable smell of ravioli. His stomach growled in response.

It didn’t take long for Farrah to emerge from the kitchen, wearing an apron and carrying two steaming bowls of ravioli. “You’re up? Go wash up. Breakfast is ready.”

She didn’t linger and moved directly to the dining table completely at ease.

Adrian didn’t respond but obediently headed to the bathroom to freshen up. Ravioli always triggered complicated feelings for him, memories of things he’d rather forget..

When he returned and sat down, he had barely taken two bites of the mushroom and chicken ravioli when the doorbell rang.

Farrah looked up, momentarily surprised. Then, she quickly stood up to answer, “Grandpa?” she exclaimed when she saw who it was. “Please come in!

Adrian’s head swiveled toward the door. Seeing his grandfather, lively as ever, he rose from the table.” Good morning, Grandpa.”

*Smells like ravioli in here! Delicious!” Philip remarked as he walked in with his cane, a twinkle in his eyes. Farrah quickly offered her arm, guiding him inside. “Yes, please sit down. I’ll cook a fresh batch for you. Have you had breakfast yet?”

“I’ve eaten, but I wouldn’t mind sampling some of your food. How can I resist your cooking, Fay?” Philip chuckled.

Beaming, Farrah let go of his arm and hurried to the kitchen to cook the last batch of ravioli. Meanwhile, Philip strolled toward the dining table and handed Adrian a small bag. “Here’s some cream for your back I may have gone a bit too hard on you last night, but don’t take it personally.”

Adrian was taken aback. His grandfather, the headstrong patriarch of the family, rarely apologized. The gesture left him momentarily speechless.

In truth, Philip was pleased with what he had seen this morning–Farrah walking out of the master bedroom while nursing a sore back. To him, that was evidence enough of progress, and now, he was in an exceptionally good mood.

“Grandpa,” Adrian began, seeing an opportunity while Philip was in high spirits. “I fired Jordan yesterday.” Philip responded casually as he sat down, still smiling. “You’re in charge of the company. It’s your call. Firing people is part of the job.”

It was clear that Jordan had already tried complaining to Philip, but his nonchalant response told Adrian that Philip didn’t intend to intervene. The subject was dropped as quickly as it was raised.

Farrah soon returned with a freshly cooked bowl of ravioli, and Philip ate it happily, complimenting her the

entire time.

After breakfast, Philip stood to leave, but not before glancing at the newly installed surveillance camera in the living room. “Don’t even think about turning that off he warned Adrian. “I want to be able to check on you two whenever I need to.”

Adrian, feeling thoroughly watched for the first time in his life, felt uncomfortable about it but couldn’t

argue.

Farrah offered no comment, though her glance toward Adrian betrayed her sense of unease.

Once Philip had left, Farrah’s phone rang–it was her friend, Riley, reminding her of their planned shopping outing. She began to gather her things and was ready to head out when Adrian called her name.

“Farrah.”

She paused by the door, turning to look at him. “What is it?”

“Why doesn’t my card have any charges on it?” His tone was firm, almost accusing. “It makes me uncomfortable, like I’m the one living off you.”

Farrah blinked, caught off guard by his sudden concern. She knew he was proud, but she didn’t think this would touch a nerve. After a moment’s thought, she smirked and teased, “Alright then. I’ll make sure to max it out while I’m out shopping with Riley today.”

She flashed him a playful grin before turning and heading out the door.

As the door clicked shut, Adrian’s expression softened ever so slightly. He stood up and quietly began clearing the table. By the time he was scrubbing the dishes in the kitchen, Philip, who was watching the video feed from his phone, was practically glowing with pride.

Adrian had barely finished when his phone rang. It was Philip, calling specifically to praise him.

“That’s my boy! A man who takes care of his wife is a man blessed by fortune. Keep this up, and good things will keep coming your way.”
