Chapter 711
Chapter 711
After all these years, Catherine had already let it all go. She knew she couldn't bring down the Killians and seek justice for Daphne.
Catherine was no longer determined to find out the truth. She was afraid that she might lose everything if she did. She only had a simple wish. She just wanted Hera by her side and for her to be healthy and safe.
"If something had happened to you, what should I have done?" Catherine choked.
Hera felt her shoulder growing damp as Catherine trembled all over. Hera suddenly felt rather guilty.
At that time, she only wanted to prevent Bernard from dying with her. Thus, she did not consider how much her family would worry for her.
"Sorry for making you worry about me," Hera patted Catherine's back while comforting her. "Everything's fine. Look at me. I'm still here, right?"
Catherine looked at Hera's bandaged left arm. Such a severe injury would surely leave a scar behind once healed. She wiped her tears away before affectionately holding Hera's left hand. She then asked in a chiding tone, "Is this even considered fine? Your hand won't look nice anymore if your injury leaves a scar behind."
Besides, it was Hera's dominant hand. No one knew whether the injury would affect Hera from administering acupuncture and typing codes.
"It's just a scar. If I can't earn money from my work, I'll just rely on my looks," Hera said, looking unbothered. But Catherine knew that Hera was merely comforting herself. No woman liked having scars. Besides, Hera was a workaholic. An injured hand would complicate matters at work.
"I'll take care of her." At that moment, Bernard's voice suddenly drifted from the doorway.
Hera looked up and saw him standing at the ward entrance. She couldn't help but recall what he said that day. "Don't be afraid. I'll be with you to the end."
Her heartbeat raced uncontrollably. So many emotions threatened to overwhelm her, but she managed to hold herself back.
"Mrs. Jones, you're here. Have you eaten yet? Douglas brought dinner," Bernard asked gently.
"I had something at the clinic before coming over." Catherine got up and reached for the thermos flask on the table. "Herie must have her medicinal meal while it's still warm."
"I'll do it." Bernard stepped forward and took the thermos flask from Catherine. "You should have dinner first." "Mrs. Jones, I brought you some grilled chicken breast with a side of salad," Douglas said with a smile. Catherine preferred light dishes. Hence, Bernard deliberately asked Douglas to prepare dishes to her preference. The room was a VIP ward that had a couch and a coffee table. Douglas placed the food on the table. Catherine went over without hesitation and started dinner.
Hera kept looking at Bernard from the bed. She wondered if she had imagined it wrongly. She suddenly felt that Bernard was friendlier to Catherine than usual.
Bernard smirked when he noticed Hera was staring at him. "Not tired of looking at me?"
Hera did not deny it. "You're rather handsome. That's why I'm looking at you."
"Are you only going to look at me? Don't you want to do something else?" Bernard spooned some soup and blew on it gently before bringing it to Hera's lips. "What about a kiss?"
Hera raised her hand to push him away gently. "Be more serious. Grandma is still here!"
"What are you so afraid of? She's not an outsider," Bernard remarked.
"Absolutely not!" Hera insisted.
"It's just a quick kiss. They won't see it," Bernard said.
Hera was rendered speechless. She wondered why Bernard was making it seem like they were having an affair.
Douglas said, "Bernard, could you two lower your voices? We can hear you guys from here."
