Chapter 136
Lemira looked up with an expressionless face, "No plans."
"Hey, newbie, what's with the attitude? Stand up, I told you to stand up, hear me?"
Lemira shot up from her chair, pushing it back a few feet.
Ethan was startled, "You're new here, looking for trouble or what? She's Ms. Langston!"
Lemira smirked mockingly, "What makes her Ms. Langston?"
"So, if she's not Ms. Langston, you are?"
Evelina, seeing the situation turning sour, quickly intervened, "Let's not fuss over me. Treat me as a newbie too, no need for all this politeness. And definitely no need for arguments over me!" Ethan immediately brown-nosed, "Ms. Langston is right."
Lemira turned and walked to the restroom, unwilling to watch Evelina prance around.
While washing her hands, Evelina stood smugly at the doorway, "I didn't expect you to show up here."
Lemira ignored the fake angel beside her.
Evelina didn't give up, "Lemira, don't be mad. It's Alaric who specifically asked me to come oversee the firewall project, Lucian knows about it too."
It was Lemira, after all, who suddenly turned up at the company to show goodwill. She wondered if Lemira regretted leaving home, trying to find a way back.
Lemira flicked the water from her hands, splashing Evelina's dress. The latter instantly became furious, "What are you doing? Do you know how much this dress cost?"
Lemira laughed scornfully, "Good to know it's expensive. You better not slip up, or else you might end up back in your old life. With such an expensive dress, you probably couldn't afford it in a lifetime." Feeling humiliated, Evelina glared at Lemira's retreating figure.
"Someday, I'll make sure to trample over you!" Evelina thought to herself.
Back in the office area, Lemira had just sat down. Ethan threw a stack of files at her, "Hey newbie, finish" these before you leave, or you're not going anywhere!"
Lemira placed the files next to her desk and continued troubleshooting the software, neither refusing nor agreeing to do them.
The sleazy guy was about to lose it but saw Evelina approaching and instantly turned to suck up to her.
A female colleague next to Lemira whispered to her, "The team lead is being overly nice, he must be into Ms. Lemira. How could Ms. Langston ever fall for that peacock, who's strutting around just because he's a team lead? Girl, be careful. If there's a company dinner, don't drink."
Lemira turned with a smile, "Got it, thanks for the heads up."
She had no intention of attending any company dinners.
At closing time, Evelina approached, "It's my first day, and I'd like to treat everyone to dinner."
The office crowd was all for it.
Seeing her testing was nearly wrapped up, Lemira began packing up to leave.
Evelina looked at her, "Ride with me later, okay?"
"No need, you all enjoy."
Lemira left with an indifferent air, not giving Evelina any face.
Evelina was a bit embarrassed, but she put on a gracious face, "I know her, never thought she'd be the same as always."
Ethan quickly chimed in, "Can't
believe she knows you and squandered such a good opportunity. No wonder she can't find a decent job! I'll teach her a
lesson for you tomorrow!"
Evelina just smiled, not responding to his comment.
Evelina and the company folks headed out to a diner, with Lucian and Alaric joining as well.
"Lucian, Alaric, you guys came too?"
Lucian looked around eagerly, asking Evelina, "Where's Lemmy? Why didn't she come?"
