When They Beg, I Rise!

Chapter 141

Lucian was feeling frustrated. He had gone out of his way to make things special, all to win over Lemira.

But Evelina had stolen the spotlight, leaving him feeling sour. Sure, it's a misunderstanding, but that didn't ease the sting.

Why did Evelina always have to show up and mess things up whenever he tried to mend fences with Lemon?

Evelina's eyes were red as she said to Lemira, looking aggrieved, "Lemmy, I swear it wasn't on purpose. I thought you were keeping your identity a secret to get a real feel for the internship."

Lemira's lips curled into a cold smirk. It seemed the innocent act was quick on its feet. No wonder she had been outmaneuvered in her past life.

But when Ethan saw Evelina crying, he jumped to her defense, "Mr. Langston, I don't think this is Ms. Sterling's fault. I mean, Ms. Langston could've disclosed her identity herself and yet she didn't. It's not fair to blame Ms. Sterling." He thought he looked pretty heroic, standing up for justice. Maybe Evelina would even fall for him now.

Lucian glanced over coldly, "You are the guy who wanted to hit my sister at the office yesterday? I've been looking for you!"

Ethan's face went through a palette of colors, "She hit me first yesterday."

"That's because you started with those nasty comments. Consider yourself unemployed."

Ethan panicked immediately. That's not how he imagined things going. He turned to Evelina in desperation.

Evelina stiffly interjected, "Lucian, he just fixed our major firewall issue. We can't just fire him like that."

Lucian was amazed, "Didn't Lemmy fix it?"

The manager quickly explained, "Ms. Langston mentioned her code was stolen."

The manager knew about the project and that Ms. Langston had been involved from the start, indicating her capability.

As for the tech team lead, who hadn't solved the firewall issue for so long, how could he have suddenly fixed it?

Ethan defended himself, "I didn't steal anything. I wrote it myself."

Evelina added, "Yeah, Lemmy said her code was stolen, but where's the proof?"

Without evidence, Lemira's words were powerless.

Lucian looked at Lemira, skeptical, "Lemmy, are you sure it was him?"

Lemira's gaze was mocking, "Yes!"

Hogan turned to the manager, "Check the surveillance."

"Yeah, the surveillance!"

But soon, the manager came back with a gloomy face, "The lobby's surveillance is broken. We've lost the past few days' footage."

Evelina's eyes gleamed with triumph, knowing this would happen.

She feigned concern, saying, "What do we do now?"

Ethan got all smug, "No evidence, who can prove it? You can't smear me just because you're Ms. Langston."

Evelina smiled, her fake worry visible as she looked at Lucian, "Lucian, I know Lemmy wants to help you out, and we all appreciate her hard work. But it's not right to claim someone else's hard work as your own right?"

Lucian was torn and frustrated. He tugged his tie and told Hogan, "Find other evidence."

"Who says there isn't any proof!"

Lemira pulled out her phone and displayed last night's last night's surveillance

happened that time.

Ethan swaggering over to her laptop, copying files, and tampering with her code, everything was crystal clear.

Lucian, furious, slapped Ethan, "You dare mess with my sister's work? Are you looking for death?"

"I, I didn't."
