Why deceive me??

Chapter 15. In guise

"I'm so pleased I've finally been discharged today, it's so fortunate to be in here to what I don't recall as home," Bianca said staring at Ronnie for an explanation.

She was just discharged from the hospital and was in a foreign house. Ronnie looks at her, not knowing how to explain but smiled.

"Mum, remember the pre-salary I got? I used it to get this tiny apartment. The previous apartment was too old." Ronnie tries to explain.

"How can you say that you used that same money, to pay for my medications and purchase the drugs? And that same money still made you pay for a house. Is there something you're not telling me?" Bianca asked, eyeing her daughter suspiciously.

"Nah, it wasn't enough. I added some of my savings to it. And remember, they said they were just doing us a friendly favor." Ronnie debated with her mother.

"Well, I'm also happy we got out of that disheveled apartment. I'm so delighted to have you as a daughter." Bianca said and hugged Ronnie affectionately.

"Mum, you're suffocating me," Ronnie said, seeming to be out of breath.

Bianca released her and she smiled. Ronnie walks Bianca to her room and lay her down on the bed.

"I want you to rest and not hold up a finger to do anything. If you need to eat, I made empanadas which you can locate in the kitchen. You can microwave it though." Ronnie said and glanced at her phone screen. It read 08:20 am and she kissed her mum's cheek.

"I'll have to go out now, you know, for the job interview." She said and Bianca smiled.

"Make sure you come back just in time, ok?" She smiled feebel and yawned. The sleeping drugs started their impact on her. She had taken it not quite earlier and we feeling weary.

"will try my best to come back before you begin to get hungry again." She said and gently covered Bianca with the blanket.

Ronnie walks out of the elegant apartment and hailed a taxi. She looks at her phone screen to search for the address and enters the taxi.

She arrived at the incredible mansion in not less than 30 minutes. It was an enormous three-storey construction. It had guards at the door of each opening. Before she came out of the cab, she used her veil to cover her face and wore her sunglasses before stepping out. She paid the driver and he looked at her curiously. With calculated but promising steps, she gently strolls to the gate. She called Katie to tell her she'd arrived and was at the front gate. "Stay there and wait for me," Katie ordered.

She stood just a few inches from the gate to the prying eyes of the gatekeeper.

"Who are you looking for, young woman?" The gatekeeper asked, eyeing her curiously because of the way she encircled her face.

"Umm... She'll be here soon." She said politely.

"That's not the question. I said who are you looking for?" He asked rudely.

Ronnie was taken aback. Should she just ignore him or tell him? It would be rude to just ignore him.

"I'm looking for miss Katie, I guess she resides here," Ronnie said.

The gatekeeper eyed her. "Why are you looking for her and why also are you covering your face?" He asked.

"Ummm...I think I'll just wait for her." She mumbled.

"Uncover your face so I can see who you are. We don't want suspicious characters on this property." He thundered.

"Believe me, I'm not a nasty person." She said without blinking.

"Open your face." He roared menacingly.

"And why would she do that?" Katie, who just walked into the scenario inquired.

The gatekeeper looked stunned but maintained his appearance in order not to look frail. "Ma'am, it was for security purposes." He declared.

"And if she said she doesn't want to open it, why would you compel her to?"She asked him, eyeing him in irritation.

"I'm sorry ma'am." He began to apologize to Ronnie.

"It's ok, he was just doing his job. There's no necessity to get angry at him" Ronnie told Katie.

"Ronnie, dear, I'm the commander of this mansion and I perpetrate what I wanttt, when I want it, how I want it and where I want it done. Don't show them any affection or else, the y won't know their place." Katie said, making eye contact with Ronnie as if telling her their discourses just started.

Ronnie nodded in understanding.

"You can go back to your post," Katie said and walked briskly toward Ronnie. "Let's go."

Ronnie walks gently but gracefully. Unlike Katie, who walks swinging her hips and all in the air.

"Ron, the first thing you need to know about being me, is my attitude towards people of the lower class." Katie began, still walking towards her room.

"Yeah, I got that info right at the gate," Ronnie said and smiled.

They walk into the house with the piercing stares of the maids, wondering why their young mistress was strolling with a strange woman who was wearing inexpensive clothing. And they were both walking toward her room. "Don't you lowlives have something useful to accomplish in your lives than stare at me like morons?"Katie asked with disdain.

At that, all the maids staring scurried off to go back to their duty posts.

Ronnie was dumbfounded. She even wondered how a woman can be so rude to everybody, including the maids that work in the house. And the cook would make food and she'd have the mind to eat it without a care in the world of being poisoned.

They reached in front of a beautifully carved door and Katie gently opened it to let Ronnie enter.

"Welcome to my little world. This is my room, which would soon be yours" she giggled at the last statement.

"It's beautiful," Ronnie whispered to herself.

"Of course, it should be. I'm a wealthy heiress and what'd you say?" Katie bragged and Ronnie noticed she also loves bragging about herself.

"Oh. Yeah," Ronnie said, then shrugged.

"What would you like to take?" Katie asked.

Before Ronnie could mutter the word, 'nothing', Katie started yelling.

"Zara, where is this good-for-nothing maid? Zara" she called out.

Seconds later, a young pretty girl scurried to the room.

"Yes ma'am" She answered

"Zara, you stay just next door, and I have to scream the whole house down before you can even answer me," Katie said and looked at the young girl angrily. "I'm so sorry ma'am. I was...." She began but was cut short by Katie.

"Excuse, excuse, excuse. Aren't you tired of giving one flimsy excuse all the time?" She asked.

"I'm sorry, my mistake," Zara said, trying to be as polite as possible.

Ronnie tried to intervene.

"I don't think she is to blame. She might be busy when you called her and had to leave that to come to answer you." Ronnie said.

"Ron, please don't start," Katie said and turned to Zara. "As you can see, I have a guest. Go tell the cook to make his best meal so I can entertain her." She said. Zara scurried off after giving Ronnie thank-youou look.

At that point, Ronnie thought it through furthermore. She didn't think she can cope with being this mean to people. She knew it was too late to turn back now.
