Chapter 100
Katherine's
POV
"Wake up!" An angelic, soft voice called. I ignored it, feeling too tired to even move.
The wolfbane had taken its toll on my body, and the burning sensation hasn't subsided yet. "Katherine King," the voice called out louder, "wake up now!"
I moan under my breath and slowly open my eyes.
"Where am I?" I growled under my breath as I pulled my body into a sitting position.
Everything was dark around me, but I could make out where the door and the window were.
I pushed myself to my feet and moved over to the window, but it was closed with planks and nails.
I dug my fingers between the pieces of wood and tried to force the structure to move.
"Ouch!" I yelled out, seeing a blister on my pinky. There must be something hidden between the planks.
"It's silver," the same angelic voice said. "Don't touch it!"
"W-w-who are you?" I stuttered, feeling nervous and stupid at the same time. I haven't seen anyone else in the room with me. "Halloo?"
Silence followed, and I sighed out loud and took a seat on the bed. I must be losing my mind.
I suddenly wondered if Xavier had noticed that I was missing. By this time, he should have and must be going crazy.
My hand instinctively moved to my nape, and my fingertips traveled over the freshly made mark.
My thoughts raced back to the perfect fairytale night Xavier arranged. It was even more perfect than I thought it would be.
I had fallen in love with Xavier, and tonight I was ready to reveal my feelings to him and tell him exactly how I felt. Now it's ruined, and I don't even know who my attacker is. If I were blessed with a wolf, I could mind-link him and tell him I was alive.
I got up and stalked to the door, pounding my hands against the wood.
"Let me out!" I yelled at the top of my voice.
"Keep quiet!" The voice instructed me, startling me.
"Why? Why should I?" I whispered under my breath.
"Because," she growled, "the one who took you is part of the dark council, and they don't know that I exist!"
"You're my..."
The door suddenly screamed on its hinges, and I took a step away. The light from outside blinds me, and a huge wolf enters the door.
"Come here, Missy," he growled, and he grabbed hold of my hair, dragging me out of the room.
I struggled, fighting against his hold, but the wolfbane had taken most of my strength.
"Keep calm!" The voice instructed. "You are burning much-needed energy."
The huge wolf dragged me down the hall and pushed me into something like an office.
Behind an office desk sat a man, and my memory rushed back to the day I met him.
"Excuse me for intruding, ladies," the man said, and I lifted my gaze, trying not to be rude. "Are you Katherine King?"
"Yes, yes I am," I answered.
The wolf's dark brown hair was neatly combed to the side, and he wore an expensive suit, yet it was his dark eyes that made me shiver, feeling cold...
"This is Nathan Murphy," Rose introduced us and got up, extending her hand to him to take, "he is the Alpha of the Black Waters Pack...and the owner of this fabulous hotel..."
"Katherine King," Nathan sneered, "you have been a great pain in my ass the last couple of months."
"I don't know what you are talking about. Let me go, Alpha Nathan!" I growled.
"You don't know what I am talking about?" He roared and jumped to his feet, and in less than a second, he had his hands around my neck and pinned me against the wall. Anger radiated around him, yet I could feel him being afraid of me. I struggled against his hold, feeling the air being cut off. My lungs burned, and I could see small white stars forming around me.
"You are middling in affairs that don't concern you-just like your father did!"
"What do you want?" I managed to choke out.
Nathan loosens his hand around my neck and drops me on the ground.
"I need you to turn a blind eye, resign, and leave the King Group!" He hissed and turned toward his desk, where his phone rang.
"Alpha Murphy, speaking," he growled irritatedly over the phone. "This better be important!"
"Your package has been compromised." A woman's voice could be heard.
I consented to the conversation, hoping to figure out why the King Group was so important to Nathan and what package she was referring to.
"Hurry up and withdraw your people now, or else..."
"What are you talking about?" Nathan growled.
Blood drained from my face as I recognized the voice as Rose's. I should have known she was involved somehow.
"Check the video I sent you!" She said. "You should retreat your men now; otherwise, you won't be able to escape when the time comes!" With that, she cut the call. Nathan fiddled with his phone and saw something, then made a call, and seconds later he roared out of anger and wiped everything off his table on the floor.
"I don't know which one of you is more annoying!" he roared, "you or the perfect Alpha Black."
"What's happening?" I choked out, feeling my heart escalate in my chest. What did Xavier do?
"Your mate had double-crossed me!" He yelled and grabbed my chin.
I could feel his claws scratching and breaking the skin. His eyes became red out of anger, and his warm breath, smelling of tobacco, washed over my face. "What did he do?" I managed to choke as I tried to remove his hands from my face.
Nathan looked at me, and a sinister smile appeared on his lips before he nodded his head and let go of me.
The huge wolf that brought me here pulled me toward a chair and tied my hands and feet to the chair.
"Blame your precious mate for me being cruel to you!" He said that and picked up his phone. "Just remember that Alpha Black will be the reason for your death!" He then walked closer to me, pointed the phone in my direction, and a phone light sprang alight.
Was he making a video to scare Xavier?
Will Xavier back off?
Will this madman kill me?
Will he succeed?
"Alpha Xavier," he said furiously, "I guess you don't care about your mate's life. You did a great job stopping my operation! Bravo! So let me return the favor!"
The huge wolf stood behind me and brought something like a knife forward and pressed against her neck, and with just a bit of force, it cut through the skin and blood oozed out, staining my clothes.
I whimpered out of pain, feeling the silver and the cut burn, yet just as soon as I was cut, the wound healed.
"I will send your mate through the post to you," he laughed and threw his head back, "piece by piece!"
Nathan pressed the stop button to send the video to Xavier.
Then he turned to me with a broad smile on his face.
"I will use you as payment for what he has done."
I looked Nathan straight into his eyes without the slightest sign of fear; that obviously pissed him off, and furious, he raised his hand and slapped me in the face.
Blood oozed from the corner of my mouth, and I could taste blood inside my mouth, yet I didn't back down and stared back at him.
"I am not afraid of you," I said, pinning his gaze as I read him. Nathan looked at me, narrowed his eyes, and tried to read me. There was wonder written in them.
"I would make a great penny off of you," he said, smiling. "My customers love feisty she-wolves."
I shivered at his words.
Nathan's phone rang, and he immediately sneered when he saw who was calling. He turned the phone toward me, and sure enough, Xavier was the one who was calling. "Alpha Black, did you call to find out whether your fiance is still alive?" Nathan asked, and he grinned darkly.
"As long as you don't hurt her," Xavier said, "I will do whatever you want."
"I want you dead!" Nathan yelled furiously.
"Very well!" Xavier said without hesitation, "If that is what you require for her to stay alive, I am willing to die for her."
