Chapter 19
Ethan's POV
The hallway was dimly lit, flickering lights casting the walls in lengthening shadow. Bianca and I followed the scent of lavender and vanilla that grew stronger with every step taken. Alert for danger at all times, this could have been a trap of Emily's setting or she had someone helping her. The imperial residence, once protected by Wang's military force, seemed a fathomless network of ambush spots everywhere you looked.
"Stay close," I murmured to Bianca, my voice both low and sure. Although her hand that I held trembled slightly, she was set to face whatever might lie ahead.
At the far end of the corridor was an exquisitely decorated door, so I noticed. Like a water drop flew Bianca's eyes everywhere We held each other's hands roughly"Weshare this." In my soft voice there was both warmth and determination--no matter how bad things get inside or out, we are together here to fight them all.
The room was dark and lit with only a few candles in the fire pit. Candles circled around a table, stacked high with mystical items and scrolls. The atmosphere is heavy and dark. More striking for me, however, were the grim & defiant looks on many council members' faces.
"Your majesty, Ethan," one of them sneered. We did not think you would intrude.
I sauntered forward, my posture the very essence of leading-from-the-front. "Nobody is allowed in this room. "What's happening here?"
Bianca agreed, locking her too into mine. We cautiously pushed open the door
This tall man, with his powerful and intense eyes, kept as calm as he could. Preparing for an inevitable regime change, he declared sulkily. These things are not as they should be.
My anger flared. This is not a power that the council can just wield like any other weapon," I told her, voice hard. "Thou art conspiring against me, working in secret to destroy my sovereignty."
The council members quickly shared glances with one another. The tall man turned to glare at Cleonil, "we act in the interests of Radacia. "Emily has forced my hand and I think it is more evident than ever that things cannot stand as they are. It was just straight-up frustrating to me. They were actually taking advantage of the chaos for their benefit. One chance, I told them in a cold voice. Or, pay the price of your own downfall.
There was some reluctance, but the council members would retrieve their things. As they left, the tall man turned and said: "Because be warned - we will be watching King Ethan." Council will keep fighting.
Once the door closed behind them, I softened my expression over to Bianca. "We need to act quickly. The world is trying to break my command, how dare Emily and her companions. Now we have to regroup and find out who else may be behind this.
Bianca was nodding, her resolve as clear... "What do you suggest?"
"I mentioned that it's important to have a conversation with the kingdom and show them that we are dedicated to ensuring their safety " I stated calmly before adding, "We should also look into the council members and figure out if there are any others mixed up in this plot."
We exited the room and strolled through the palace grounds; a sense of responsibility began to dawn on me with each step I took forward. My prior lack of assertiveness now seemed like an oversight as I realized the importance of exhibiting leadership and unwavering determination.
From Bianca's perspective.
After the council members shared their news with us all those days ago the atmosphere in the palace became charged with unease and doubt. Whispers and speculations filled the air leaving the kingdom feeling restless. Although Ethans speech had an impact, the shadow of Emily's sway still loomed ominously over us like a storm cloud.
As Ethan. I strolled through the palace gardens that evening and basked in the peaceful beauty of our surroundings amid an inner turmoil I couldn't shake off easily. The soft twilight glow enveloped the garden while the sweet fragrance of blooms provided a moment of solace from the pressures weighing down on us.
"Glancing up at him filled me with warmth " I whispered tenderly. "I share your sentiments "I murmured gently. "Your courage and resilience inspire me with optimism " I reassured softly. "We can brave any challenges ahead as long as we stand united "I affirmed sincerely.
Ethan's mood lightened some more too. Why did he think he was now bearing down too seriously on business? Taking a lock of my hair behind my ear, he said, "You've been really very courageous, Bianca. No matter whatever happens, I want you to know, I am going to be by your side forever."
We remained like that for a moment, soaking into each other as though nothing else in the world existed. All the sounds and sights from outside seemed to finish, leaving for ourselves a dense bubble of warmth and love.
This serenity was broken by the sudden appearance of a palace guard who presented news reports on the spread of discontent in the kingdom. We were looking to deal with this problem when I noticed that once again Ethan was shouldering some invisible load of responsibility.
