Shattered Vows Shining Comeback

Chapter 67

Chapter 67 I Did It

“Jake, you have to believe me! Mom and I ended up like this because of her,” Caitlin insisted, her face. flushing with urgency. She was afraid Jake wouldn’t believe her.

Sarah, who was just about to speak up again, became overwhelmed and blacked out. Caitlin quickly caught her as she collapsed.

Gwen was all too familiar with this performance. She smirked and said in an unapologetic tone, “That’s right, I did it.”

She had no desire to continue arguing with them, so she turned to head back to the dressing room. But Jake stepped in her way, blocking the door.

Her brows knitted together slightly as she took a step back to maintain her distance, her voice cold.” Move.”

Jake glanced at the half–conscious Sarah and Caitlin, and once again, his heart wavered.

“How long are you going to stay mad?” Jake asked coldly as he narrowed his eyes.

Gwen found it amusing. “Since when was I mad?”

“You attacked them because you’re holding grudges over what the Hall family did to you in the past, no?”

“Don’t assume everything.” Gwen shook her head. “I won’t even spare these filthy people another look, so why would I waste my time on them?”

“If that’s the case, then why did you attack me?” Caitlin started to complain again as she helped the fainted Sarah up.

“You practically begged for this, buzzing around like flies that won’t go away. Shouldn’t I oblige your wishes?” Gwen’s eyes flashed with sharp intensity as she cast a cold glance at Jake.

“You’d better keep your family in check. If they keep disgracing themselves like this, it won’t just be toilet water for makeup removal the next time.”

Jake’s cold gaze remained fixed on her while his feet remained rooted. “After everything we’ve been through as husband and wife, do you really have to speak so harshly?” he asked.

“I’m sorry. All the good things were already said before our divorce.” Gwen lowered her head and smiled, her eyes were filled with sarcasm. “You can look for Ms. Charles if you wish to listen to sweet nothings.”

‘Jake, she’s crossing the line! You should teach her a lesson!” Sarah woke up again. Although she wasn’t as weak as previously, she was still pretending to be sick to force Jake’s hand.

Jake’s frustration churned inside him, yet he couldn’t bring himself to say anything harsh, let alone make a move. He could no longer scold Gwen like he used to. After all, it was his actions that had pushed her farther and farther away.

Jake, why are you blocking the door?”

Suddenly, Theodore appeared and quickly stepped in to shield Gwen behind him. He turned, his face full of concern. “Are you okay?”

Having seen the headlines about the Hall family and how they had treated Gwen, Theodore knew well enough what kind of people they were. With three against one, he feared Gwen might have been at a disadvantage.

Theodore’s appearance stunned Gwen. She calmed herself and said, “I’m fine. Thanks for your concern,

Mr. Quinn.”

“This is my family matter. It’s none of your business,” Jake’s cold tone slipped through as Theodore protect Gwen so carefully. A flash of coldness crossed his face.

“You two are divorced. Gwen hasn’t been part of the Hall family for a long time,” Theodore shot back, standing his ground. “Whatever milady is dealing with, it’s my business now!”

Jealousy surged in Jake’s chest. “Divorced or not, she was still my woman once.”

Once, Jake! Once! Get it straight. What you had with her is in the past!” Theodore’s voice grew louder, his frustration palpable.

Gwen, tired of the escalating argument, crossed her arms and made her exit. “You two can keep fighting. I’m not the one embarrassing myself here.”

“You jinx, get back here! We’re not done with you yet!”

While Theodore and Jake remained locked in a tense standoff, Theodore quickly noticed Gwen walking off and hurried after her. “Milady, where are you going? Take me with you!”

Jake stood frozen as he watched their retreating figures. The loneliness in his figure was undeniable.

Gwen left the exhibition and wandered aimlessly, not noticing Theodore quietly following behind her.

The cool night breeze helped clear her mind a bit.

She had nothing more to say to the Hall family, but having lived through those hurts herself, it was impossible not to feel something.

When she stopped at the overpass, she stood still and gazed at the flowing traffic below. When she

turned around again, Theodore was standing there awkwardly while holding a handkerchief in his hand.
