Chapter 77
Chapter 77 She Made the Move, So I Returned the Favor
Gwen shot a glance at Ryan. “Nothing. We weren’t talking about anything.”
“You’d better not be! Don’t let me catch you badmouthing me,” Xenia warned.
Ryan, ever the chatterbox, immediately clammed up. “I’m going out for some fresh air.”
He always turned cold and distant whenever Xenia was around.
As soon as Ryan pushed the door open, he spotted Jake standing outside. Ryan’s smile instantly disappeared, and his expression turned icy. He blocked the doorway and raised his voice as he said, You’re not welcome here.”
Jake asked Cedar to hand a fruit basket to Jake. “Please pass this to Gwen.”
“Take it and get lost. Gwen doesn’t need this junk from you.” Ryan waved Jake off.
“Is Gwen awake?” Jake barely acknowledged Ryan as he knew full well Ryan wasn’t Gwen’s type. But William? He posed a real threat.
“She’s awake, and that’s all you need to know. Please leave now.” Xenia’s voice came from behind as she and Ryan stood firmly at the door, blocking all entry.
Teave her in your care,” Jake said curtly before turning to walk away.
Ryan was boiling with anger and shouted after him, “We’re taking care of Gwen by choice, and we don’t need your
, you scumbag!”
Xenia tugged on Ryan’s arm. “Keep your voice down. Gwen needs her rest.”
Ryan chuckled. “You’re right.”
Their eyes met, but neither said another word as awkwardness settled between them.
Later that evening, Sofia came by to visit Gwen and handed her a document envelope. “This is from William. He asked me to give it to you.”
Gwen opened it to find photos of Sienna handing over a sum of cash. Her grip tightened on the photos, and her knuckles turned white.
“I always thought Sienna was just a whiny and weak woman. It now turns out she’s actually pretty vile.” “It’s a good thing nothing worse happened.” Sofia held Gwen’s hand. She was visibly shaken by the close call.
“Don’t worry, Aunt Sofia. I’ll be fine in a few days.” Gwen gently squeezed Sofia’s hand in return.
A sharp glint flashed in her eyes. “She made a move on me, so I’ll make sure to return the favor.”
A few days later, at the international arrivals gate of Bellmont Airport, Gwen stepped out and immediately encountered Jake and Sienna.
Sienna was resting her hand on her stomach, leaning slightly against Jake. Her smile was cold and bitter. Gwen, you survived that close call. Why didn’t you stay a few extra days in the hospital for observation?”
It was a pity that Gwen wasn’t killed. The thought alone made Sienna simmer with frustration.
“You should worry more about yourself, murderer, Gwen responded calmly.

Sienna’s smile froze. Had Gwen figured it out? She had been so careful, and the driver was already somewhere far away. It was impossible!
Just then, a swarm of reporters rushed over, shoving microphones in Sienna’s face.
*Sienna, the news about you hiring someone to kill Gwen is trending. Do you have any comments?”
“Is this true?”
“Are you expecting a police summons? Are you prepared to face it?”
Sienna hadn’t expected that just a few hours on the airplane would link her to an attempted murder. The barrage of questions made her heart’race, but she tried hard to maintain her composure.
She glanced at Jake, only to find him staring back at her with increasing suspicion in his eyes.
“What’s going on?” Jake’s voice was cold.
“They’re making it up, Jake.” Sienna was forcing herself to be calm. “Which news outlet are you from?” I’m going to sue all of you!”
Just then, a police car pulled up. Two officers stepped out, and the reporters parted to let them through. “Sienna, we need you to come with us for questioning regarding a major car accident. Please cooperate with us,” one of the officers said.
Sienna’s legs weakened as she looked desperately at Jake and shook her head. “Jake, believe me, I didn’t do it.”
Jake quickly asked when he watched Sienna being led away, “Excuse me, is there some kind of mistake?”
The officer remained professional. “We’ve received evidence linking Sienna to the crash. We need to verify some details with her.
“Let’s go, Sienna, the officer urged.
Tears streamed down Sienna’s face as she was taken away, and Jake could do nothing but watch helplessly.
The reporters snapped more photos before turning their attention to Gwen.
“Gwen, have you fully recovered?”
“Do you believe Sienna is innocent?”
