Shattered Vows Shining Comeback

Chapter 78

Chapter 78 The Debt Owed by the Hall Family to the Charles Family

Gwen smiled faintly. “Thank you all for your concern. I’ve fully recovered.”

“As for the car accident… I trust the law in our country will neither wrongfully accuse a good person nor let a bad one walk free.”

The reporters quickly shifted their attention to Ryan.

“Rumor has it that Simon dropped everything to care for you after the accident. Is that true?”

“Can you share more about your relationship with Simon?”

“Are you two planning to make it official soon?”

Gwen chuckled helplessly. The reporters hadn’t forgotten about that rumor. There’s nothing to disclose about my relationship with Simon for now.”

Seeing that they couldn’t get any more answers, the reporters started to wrap things up.

Standing off to the side, Jake’s gaze lingered on Gwen it was filled with complicated emotions. That vague response about Simon left him unsettled.

He wanted to ask about William and, more urgently, about this so–called Simon and what kind of relationship they shared. His curiosity rivaled that of the reporters.

But all he could do was watch as Gwen walked away with her head held high and her handbag in hand.

In the evening, Jake returned to his office at Hall Group.

After spending the entire day dealing with Sienna’s situation at the police station, he felt drained. Sienna had been released on bail. She kept crying endlessly, driving everyone to frustration, so he sent her back to the Charles residence.

Things were definitely chaotic at home, and he wasn’t in the mood to listen to Sarah or Caitlin bickering in his ears. It was much more peaceful in the office.

As he flicked on the lights, he was startled to see Anthony sitting in his chair.

For a moment he was surprised, but considering Sienna’s current predicament, it wasn’t too shocking that Anthony had come to confront him.

“Good evening, Mr. Charles,” Jake greeted.

Without wasting any time, Anthony asked, “When are you planning to marry Sienna?”

Jake froze in the mid–motion of hanging up his coat. That question had been looming over him for a while.

“We can discuss it later. Things have been hectic lately Jake replied.

“It’s been months since your divorce, and you’re still not thinking of making Sienna your wife? What exactly are you waiting for?” Anthony was unimpressed by Jake’s excuses.

Frustration simmered within Jake. “Sienna now has a criminal record because of the car accident. I’m not sure my family would approve.”

Anthony scoffed while dismissing Jake’s concern. “You married that nobody, Gwen, back then. And now, you’re worried about something as trivial as this?

Attempted murder could be considered a trivial matter? Jake was appalled by Anthony’s indifference.

“Don’t forget that your family owes mine a life!” Anthony’s palm slammed onto the desk, his voice turning harsh.

*Joshua was responsible for Emily’s death, and now, you’re disgracing us by keeping Sienna in the shadows. The Halls have no shame at all.

“Mr. Charles, you can insult me all you want, but as for Joshua… He’s gone. Please let it go.” A flicker of sadness crossed Jake’s eyes.

Years ago, Joshua and Emily went on a trip together, only to die in a tragic car accident. Since then, the Hall family had been indebted to the Charles family.

As for what had happened with Sienna, Jake felt hazy during the entire situation. It was just one drunken night.

When Jake woke up, he had no memory of what had occurred. The next thing he knew, Sienna was lying next to him in tears. She later told him she was pregnant.

When Gwen found out, she immediately asked for a divorce. Everything that happened since was still something he was trying to understand.

“Why

y should I let it go? Mistakes like that should be remembered for life!” Anthony stood with his eyes filled with warning as he glared at Jake.

He continued, “This is the last time I’m asking about Sienna. If you don’t marry her, I’ll deal with Gwen myself! Let’s see if you still have lingering feelings for her then!”

Jake locked eyes with Anthony, his gaze hardening as he spoke in an uncharacteristically threatening voice, “You can’t touch her.”

“Whether I can or not isn’t up to you!” Anthony kicked the door open and strode out, leaving the office in an intimidating display.

Jake clenched his fists tightly as he stood alone in the dark.

At the Lawson residence, Yara stared intently at Gwen for quite a while.

Gwen chuckled. “How long are you going to keep staring?”

Yara finally relaxed and leaned back on the couch. “Well, it’s nothing major. You’re still gorgeous. You have no missing arms or legs.”

Suddenly, Yara sat up straight, her eyes twinkling with mischief. She asked mysteriously, “I heard William swooped in to save the day this time?”

“Yes.” Gwen nodded with a slight smile.

Gwen could still remember that silhouette moving against the night, and just thinking about it made her heart race.

“That’s our legendary senior we’re talking about! How did he happen to be there for you? Ryan told me he even had a blood supply ready for you. How romantic is that?” Yara’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, sensing there was more to the story.

“It wasn’t like that. It was probably Sofia who arranged it, and…” Gwen said.

Yara was even more eager. “And what? Spill it, babe!”

“I haven’t seen William since I woke up. He’s been busy, Gwen admitted.

Yara shook her head with disappointment. “That’s not how things should develop.”

“What do you mean ‘develop‘!‘ Gwen reached over to scratch at Yara teasingly.

After a good night’s rest, Gwen arrived on time at Delta Corporation’s office. As soon as she sat down, her phone rang. It was Judy who called.

“Hey, girl. How’s the mission I assigned you?” Judy asked.

“No problem. It was a flawless execution,” Gwen replied.

Now, Sienna was under fire from all sides, and many people online were coming to Gwen’s defense.

Even Jake wasn’t spared from the backlash. The trending headlines called him a “blind CEO“.

“There’s a party tonight. It’s one of those events you can’t skip. You know the drill,” Judy said.

Gwen smiled. “Got it. I’ll accompany you there tonight.

Judy was direct and a bit of an ice queen, which often led to awkward moments at events. Having Gwen by her side made things a lot more comfortable for her!
