Chapter 131 –
Wyatt's face froze for a split second after Ivy finished speaking.
However, it only lasted a fraction of a second.
His lips curled gently as he lifted his slender fingers to brush away some strands of her hair that the wind around her ear had blown up. Ivy immediately tilted her head away from him.
He drew his hand back. His voice was hoarse and low, but his eyes were soft and tender.
"Really? Well... That doesn't stop me from treating you to lunch."
Ivy inhaled deeply. 'Why is he stuck to my shoe like a bloody bubblegum that I can't get rid of?!'
"However, I don't want to eat with you. Mr. Reed, you need to be more sensible."
Wyatt's pupils constricted. His smile widened gradually, and his voice became gentle and mellow.
"I'm not sensible."
Ivy's chest felt stuffy because she was so angry. She simply turned and walked away, not wanting to say anything else to this annoyance. Wyatt's eyes were no longer gloomy. He mumbled helplessly. "How about we eat together?"
"Go away!"
"I know what the relationship between Icarus Lewis and Marco Seely is," Wyatt said.
Ivy came to a halt and immediately reversed her decision, feeling no remorse.
"All right, let's go to lunch."
Wyatt smiled slowly. He thought Ivy was adorable for being so decisive.
Ivy had assumed that they would have a simple meal.
Who knew Wyatt Reed would take her to a famous private restaurant halfway across town?
This restaurant had a daily capacity of fifteen people and required reservations half a month in advance, but the dining experience was excellent.
Wyatt went straight to the VIP area and pulled out a chair for her as soon as he stepped inside.
Ivy took a proper seat as Wyatt handed her the menu.
"What would you like to eat?"
Ivy pushed it away without looking. "The most expensive meal."
Wyatt nodded without looking up, then approached the waiter and ordered a few dishes.
Ivy gazed out at the Zen Garden, which included rockery and water features. Small red lanterns swayed gently with the wind beneath the eaves of the roof, and the sound of the wind chime was pleasant and soothing. The entire establishment was meticulously decorated.
"How do you know I'm looking into Icarus Lewis and Marco Seely's relationship?"
Wyatt raised his hand and poured her a cup of tea slowly.
The fragrance of the tea was intoxicating, and the setting was idyllic.
"It isn't a secret. After your meeting, someone began gossiping, and it only took half a day for it to reach my ears."
Ivy was at a loss for words. 'Right.'
"Does Reed Corporation intend to fight for Marco Seely as well?"
Wyatt cocked his brow.
"I'll tell you what I know, but I won't assist you in obtaining him. Will you cry, Ivy, if you lose and have to leave Morgan Corporation?"
Ivy's brow furrowed, and she rolled her eyes at him. 'How come this jerk is so sure of himself? He's acting as if I'm going to lose! "Will you cry if you lose?"
Wyatt's gaze was gentle. "If I lose, it means you've won. I'll be delighted for you."
'Hah! What a sham!'
"But seriously... Come to Reed Corporation if you lose. You can take any position you want here."
'Is he trying to get me?'
Ivy cocked her brow. "What is the position that is higher than yours?"
"The President's wife."
Ivy stiffened slightly and laughed coldly.
"I've been married to you for three years, but your receptionist won't even let me in. Only gullible young ladies will believe your sweet talk."
His words had no effect on Ivy. Instead, she thought it was hilarious.
The most absurd thing was that his receptionist never cared about Ivy, but they remembered to compliment Alice Perez.
Alice had flaunted in front of Ivy countless times in order to suffocate and humiliate her.
Wasn't that because of Wyatt's collusion with Alice, because Ivy was unimportant to him?
All of the trivialities of the past reminded Ivy that avoiding Wyatt Reed was the only way to live.
Wyatt was deafeningly quiet for a long time. His gaze was bitter, and his heart felt clenched to the point where it was difficult to breathe.
Ivy did not receive the respect she deserved while she was married to him.
He felt suffocated every time he thought about it.
Ivy no longer cared about the insignificant past because she knew those three years were all a figment of her imagination. Her lone courage was what got her through those difficult times. She just wanted it to go away because it was the past.
"Ivy..." Wyatt locked his gaze on her. His eyes were astringent and deep.
Wyatt felt a little out of breath after seeing how casual she was when she spoke. He clenched his fists and spoke slowly. "This will never happen again."
Wyatt promised to put her first and to pamper her. He would never abandon her again.
Ivy simply smiled, emotionless.
There would be no such thing as a future between them.
She was clear now, and she would never look at him again.
Ivy took a sip of tea and picked up the cup.
"Let's get to the point."
After all, the reason she came here was not to hear him wax poetic about the past.
Wyatt frowned slightly and lowered his gaze. He only lowered his head for a fraction of a second to regain his composure.
"The reason Icarus Lewis is so confident is that he has a connection," he said slowly. Wyatt raised his head and turned to face Ivy, "Marco Seely's butler." Ivy looked surprised. "Butler?"
Wyatt gave a nod. "Despite the fact that he is only a butler, he has Marco Seely's trust. The butler's words can sometimes sway Marco Seely's decision." "Is..."
'Is Marco Seely his puppet?' Ivy was puzzled.
Wyatt smiled and continued to speak, and she wanted to say something.
"Normally, this butler would travel to the city on Marco's behalf. During his time here, he would always meet with Icarus Lewis because Icarus' birth mother is the butler's adopted mother." Ivy raised her head in surprise. 'Is there such a thing as a relationship?'
It's no surprise that Icarus Lewis was willing to stake his entire family fortune on his son, Zion, getting this opportunity.
If Marco Seely truly valued this butler, the Lewis' would undoubtedly win this collaboration.
Ivy inhaled deeply. She appeared to be in perilous waters this time!
The food was delivered.
"Let's eat first," Wyatt said relaxedly.
Ivy took a look at several exquisite dishes, but she didn't have much of an appetite.
Wyatt had planned to put some food on her plate first, but Ivy drew her plate back slightly.
"I'm going to do it myself."
Wyatt's hand came to a halt in mid-air before he gently placed the food on his own plate.
"All right."
Ivy hadn't eaten anything since she got out of bed. Despite her lack of appetite, she ate her fair share.
Wyatt, on the other hand, didn't eat much and mostly just watched her eat. He sat there; his gaze drawn to Ivy's soft brows. He wanted this moment to last because she was so beautiful.
Even he couldn't figure out what had gotten into him. He put in a lot of effort to discover this secret, but he so easily revealed it to Ivy in exchange for a meal. He pretended to be humble in order to make her happy. But it was all worth it!
Wyatt didn't know when he became this way, but since he couldn't change his attitude toward her, he could accept his new self and allow himself to fall deeper in love with her.
It started to rain outside at some point.
Raindrops fell on the garden's small pond, which contained fish. The water's surface gently rippled.
Wyatt stood up when he noticed Ivy had finished her meal.
"I'll send you back."
Ivy yelled at him. "There's no need for you to waste time on me, Wyatt Reed." Her rejection was clear.
There was no way their relationship could progress any further.
Wyatt was dressed in a dark gray coat. He appeared to be very lean and tall.
He said it in a lighthearted tone as if he didn't care. "It's fine, I'm willingly wasting it."
Wyatt clearly had a mountain of work waiting for him, but he was still here, patiently accompanying her for lunch.
He, too, suspected that he had been possessed.
