Why deceive me??

Chapter 10. The offer

"Katie, I need you to come to Maxwell's sanitarium to meet me now." Mrs. Philips said urgently on the phone.

Katie has been trying to reach Ronnie by all means and it would seem bizarre to ask someone if they knew a girl who looks like her. She didn't want her plans endangered. On this special day, Katie was busy smoothing her nails when her mother's call came in. She reluctantly picked up the phone and swiped on the answer. "Why are you in that place? It's meant for poor people... Eew" She said with contempt.

"I think you'll find it more interesting than I do right now." Mrs. Philips said.

"What's to interest you in the hospital mum?" She asked.

"Katie." Mrs. Philips began.

"What, I'm in the middle of doing my nails. Can't it wait?" She whined.

"Katie, I want you to get your lazy ass off that house and get here this minute before you miss the opportunity of a lifetime." Mrs. Philips thundered.

"Mum, tell me what the matter is. I have a phobia of poor people things. Starting from their clothes, shoes, hospital, creams and even their breaths disgust me." She snapped.

"How would it interest you to know that your mystery girl, which you told me about the other day, is standing here? Right in front of me." Mrs. Philips said.

At the mention of that, Katie snapped back to life and abruptly stood up.

"Cheese nibblet. You don't mean it. You mean Ronnie or another person?" She exclaimed.

"Hurry and stop saying trash. I don't want to lose her trace." Mrs. Philips said, practically out of breath.

Katie seems out of breath as she screams orders to the maids.

"Zara, Zara, get right here."

A few moments later, she was standing in front of the large general sanitarium with her mother.

"So where is she?" She asked excitedly.

"I saw her enter that ward over there," she said pointing at a door. "Follow me"

The duo walked to the door and knocked. They heard a faint 'come in' and they proceeded to go in.

*****

Ronnie walked quickly to her mother's ward and once she was inside, slammed the door shut. Bianca was resting when she saw her daughter's face white as day. "Honey, what's that, did you see a ghost?"She asked concerned.

Ronnie had to shake off the edgy feeling he was having. She forced a smile on her mother.

"Yes mum, I'm perfectly fine." She replied without looking at her mother. Her heart was running a hundred miles every second.

Bianca smiled knowingly and smiled to herself. Maybe it's high time this daughter of hers find someone in her life even if it was not her mate.

Still wandering In her thoughts as Ronnie made to take a seat, they heard a knock at the door.

"Come in," Ronnie said, without making any effort to stand up and get the door.

The door opened slightly with a middle-aged woman stepped in. Followed by another pretty-looking lady, her look-alike, Katie.

Ronnie gasped and Bianca almost had another heart attack. She spat out the tea she was drinking and looked at Katie wide-eyed.

"What in the world," Bianca said and turned to look at Ronnie who didn't seem shocked and not the least pleased to see them. It's as if she'd known she had a look alike.

Mrs. Philips took a closer look at Ronnie and smiled. "She looks like you dear, she could work it out." She whispered to Katie and smiled.

"Hello ladies, good day." Mrs. Phillips greeted politely.

Bianca couldn't find her tongue to speak, she felt tongue-tied. She just stared, stupified. "Is she a ghost or real?" She asked, not sure if she was seeing right.

Katie felt the urge to spat out but kept her cool, knowing what she wants to achieve coming here. She smiled instead. "Nah, I'm a real person with flesh and blood like the not of you." She answered. "What do you want? To insult my cheap earrings today?" Ronnie snapped.

Mrs. Philips was astonished. Katie never told her she'd insulted this lady here. It was going to make it hard to convince her.

"No darling, forgive my manners the other day. I was just dazed by seeing you. You know, it's not every day you get to see someone who looks specifically like you." Katie said sharply, hoping Ronnie would mellow down. "Ronnie, I don't think this is the nicest way to greet your guest, darling," Bianca said.

"I think your ma is right." Mrs. Philips cut in sharply. "I'm also here, you know. Let's make the best of our time." She sighed. "How is your health dear?" She asked Bianca.

"Much better than how I was brought here."Bianca smiled.

"We thank God, then." Mrs. Philips said.

"Ok, thank you for your concern ma. I think you may both have your seats."Ronnie said, not looking at them but clearly not mad either.

They both sat down on the couch nearby. Even though the hospital was a private one and cheap, they still had couches in each ward.

"We don't have much time though, so I'll just go to the main point we're here." She said after clearing her throat.

"Ok, we're more than happy to listen," Ronnie replied.

"Umm.. you see, my daughter here, told me all about you and I was marveling why someone could exist that looks like her. I said to myself that I was gonna find you. Now here I am, looking at the replica of my daughter." She smiled. Ronnie rolled her eyes and Bianca gave her a disappointed look. She smiled at their guests.

"It's also alarming seeing someone who looks like my daughter. Thinking about how she's never told me of this incredible eyesight." Bianca said.

"So you guys came all the way just to see me?" Ronnie asked doubtfully.

"That was one of the reasons dear, but also, not the main reason," Katie said.

"Ok, so can you kindly state the main reason you came from your house, which I would guess is in the fortress, and come here to see a poor girl who lives in the slums" Ronnie countered.

"As my mum said, that's not the main reason," Katie said.

"I'm listening," Ronnie said leaning forward, hoping for the best.

"I've seen how hardworking you look, and I think you've struggled hard and saw the horrible side life has to offer." She began. "I and my mum here decided on a decision that we both think you'd like." "Which is?" Ronnie asked, interested.

"How would you like to acquire a few thousand bucks?" Katie said.

Bianca, who was busy listening to the two girls exchange words like adversaries while sipping her tea, choked on it at the mention of that kind of cash.
