Chapter 102
Xavier's
POV
Getting into Black Water territory was easier than I hoped; I assumed it was because everyone was instructed to be out delivering the package. Greyson was following my scent and wasn't far behind me. He had gathered some warriors and was running at a slower pace behind me.
Kate's scent hit my nose, and Ray pushed forward, sprinting through the forest. They must have carried her here.
My gaze landed on the moon as I came closer to the forest edge, and a couple of feet further, I could see the white ball smiling over the lake's calm, dark water.
A cold shiver ran down my spine, yet Ray shook it off and shot forward, keeping to the darker areas of the shadows.
About a mile further down, a wooden cottage, as per Erika's description, came into view.
Ray shifted his nose into the air and took a whiff.
I could smell at least five people in the area, one of whom was Kate, and the other was Nathan.
Ray pushed forward, making sure he was downwind.
When we were close enough, Ray took a seat among the debris.
Two guards were standing outside and looked bored out of their minds.
"How far are you?" I mind linked Greyson.
"I have just entered the forest," he replied.
"That's about a mile from me," I said. "You better hurry; I am about to..."
"Just give us a few minutes," Greyson cut me off. "Don't do anything stupid!"
I shifted back and watched the two idiots standing on the porch of the cabin-not that the wooden structure could be called a cabin; it was more like something that was glued together by a toddler.
I slowly approached the edge of the forest, picked up a rock, and threw it toward the edge.
That obviously got their attention, and I threw another stone a bit further down.
The two wolves looked at one another, and the bigger one of the two walked toward the steps of the porch.
He scanned the area, shivered, and turned back to the other wolf.
Yet again, I threw a stone, making sure it landed closer to the edge.
"Who goes there?" He yelled and stalked toward the forest.
"What are you doing, man?" the thinner one asked.
"I heard something!" He answered, turning around with his back to me.Enjoy this chapter for free and stay updated with the latest version on Job_ni-b.c-om. Don't miss out, visit it now. I grabbed him, took him by surprise, and pulled him into the forest, breaking his neck before he got a chance to shift and defend himself.
"Come on, Garry! Stop fooling around!" The thinner wolf yelled, looking nervously around.
When Garry didn't reply, the thinner wolf came down the steps of the porch, hurrying toward the forest.
"Garry, seriously, man!" he growled, annoyed. "Stop fooling around. Alpha Murphy is going to have our tails if he sees us leaving our post!"
Yet again, silence greeted the wolf, and he whimpered, worried. He was about to return to his post when I picked up a stick and threw it next to him.
When he bent down, I pounced on him, and before he could let out a scream, Ray extended his claws, and I ripped his heart out of his chest. Panting out of breath, I stood in silence, looking at the heart in my claws, still beating.
This wasn't my first kill and wouldn't be my last either, but this time it would be for love-protecting what is mine and the future of my pack! "Seriously!" Greyson's voice sounded in my head, breaking my thoughts. "You are no fun!"
Greyson's wolf walked closer and dropped a bag on the forest floor.
"Thanks," I said, opening the bag.
I pulled out a towel, rolled my eyes, shook my head at Greyson, and wiped my hand on the towel. I then retrieved some clean clothes and put them on. "I brought you this," Greyson said, handing me a gun.
"Why?" I asked.
"It's not loaded with silver," he said seriously, "but you might need it. It could wound Nathan just enough for us to get information out of him."
Kate cried out in agony, and my head snapped toward the cabin, and my body froze, feeling like it had been electrocuted.
He was hurting her, and that was all because of me.
"How many are still inside?" Greyson asked, worried.
"Three, including Kate," I replied.
"What are you planning to do?" He asked, and a sinister smile followed my lips.
"I am going to kill that son of a bitch and feed his tail to him. Stay here," I instructed, and I started forward. "If anything happens, get Kate out! Keep her safe!" "Xavier!" Greyson stopped me, and I turned my head to look at him. "Be careful!"
I nodded and stalked down toward the cabin.
"Nathan," I yelled, "come out!"
Kate's screams stopped instantly, and the door of the cabin flew open a few seconds later.
Nathan forced Kate out of the door, keeping her as a shield before him.
"I am surprised to see you here," Nathan growled darkly, "you surely must love this she-wolf?"
"Let her go, and take me in her place!" I said as my gaze moved to Kate's.
F*ck! If only she knew how much I love her. Our gazes locked, and some kind of spark moved between us.
Nathan must have noticed it, and a dark smile followed on his lips.
"You are worthless as a hostage," he said to me. "Even if the King Group goes bankrupt, Kate's life is much more valuable than yours!"
Does he know of the prophecy?
Nathan moved the blade down Kate's body, over her breast, making me feel uncomfortable.
"He is trying to intimidate you," Ray said. "Don't fall for it!"
"True," I said, "but with me, you can force Kate to do whatever you want. Her heart is too soft, and she is in love with me; she will obey you without arguing." Kate's eyes reflected worry and annoyance.
"Is that what you think of me?" Kate asked, looking hurt and dropping her gaze.
"We will talk about it later, sweetheart," I said, looking at her with so much love and devotion. "Don't worry, I will not let you get hurt; no matter what, I will protect you."
Kate lifted her head, and a small smile followed her lips. My words had some effect on her, and they were washing the annoyance and worry away.
Even though Kate looked just as bad as I did, she still looked as beautiful as the first day I found her.
"If we get out alive," Kate said, struggling against Nathan's hold, "I will accept the responsibility of being your Luna."
My heart warmed upon hearing her words, and Ray howled in my mind.
"If I get out alive, I will certainly make you my wife and marry you," I responded like a love-sick puppy.
We couldn't stop expressing our love for each other.
Nathan coughed, breaking the love spell between us. He looked a bit uncomfortable seeing us like this.
"Enough flirting!" Nathan roared and lifted the knife to Kate's throat. "It's time to get rid of..."
A gunshot went off, silencing the forest around us, and Nathan stopped the movement of his hand immediately.
I was half-kneeling on one leg in front of them with the gun in my hand.
"I'm injured now," I said, gesturing to the blood oozing out of my leg. "I can't run or even walk. Take me instead of her!" Nathan looked at me in shock, and I slowly approached them.
I yanked the gun aside.
"Very well," Nathan said, "I respect you for doing that to save your girl. I will do as per your request."
Nathan lowered his head toward Kate and whispered in her ear.
"I am surprised that Alpha Xavier is so in love with you," Nathan said, glancing through his eyelashes at me. "I envy you for that." Nathan pushed Kate forward towards me, and she walked quickly to me. I grabbed her in an embrace, hugging her for dear life. "Xavier, your leg," Kate cried out and dropped to her knees, trying to stop the blood.
Ray was already healing me, and the wound would heal in a bit of time.
"It's nothing," I said, and I bent down to her ear. "You need to run toward the forest; Greyson will be waiting for you!"
"What about you?" She asked, shivering visibly.
"I will..."
"Hurry up!" Nathan yelled, cutting us off and looking over his shoulder. "And say your goodbyes!"
I pushed Kate toward the forest, and Nathan took a step closer to me and held out the knife and picked up the gun, but before I knew what was happening, a huge wolf walked from behind the cottage and grabbed hold of Kate. "Let her go!" I yelled.
"And why would I want to do that?" Nathan sneered. "Killing you and her would solve my problems. The council will sweep it under the rug-you have entered my pack without permission. I have killed you in self-defense." "Liar!" Kate yelled, struggling in the wolf's hold, then looked at the full moon above us before she became still and closed her eyes.
Was she praying?
Nathan walked closer and pointed the gun at me.
